GLENN FREY EAGLES GUITARIST DEAD AT 67
TMZ ^ | 1/17/2016

Posted on 01/18/2016 2:01:14 PM PST by Borges

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned. Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse. Glenn co-wrote and sang most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band. After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career, recording numerous hits ... most notably "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City." Glenn also got into acting, snagging a recurring role on "Miami Vice." He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery, but it appears he was never able to bounce back. Glenn was 67. RIP.

Oops, looks like he played the Cardinals’ GM in “Jerry Maguire” and not the head coach.

It just seemed gratuitous to say that in an obit thread about someone who wasn’t a rapist or murderer.

Don Henley...he’s still alive and kicking.

And just released an excellent album "Cass County". Listening to it now.

That’s a great documentary. I can imagine you have to be pretty one-sided when it comes to running a band like that otherwise nothing gets done.

He was an assassin of youth.

His role in the destruction of millions of lives, plenty of rapes and other harmful behavior, is incontrovertible.

Oh, and Take It a Easy is a nice song.

Ok, that’s a great song. Has more than a bit of a “punk” feel to it, perfectly matches the sentiment expressed.

Who else is dead? Joe Waslsh?

Amazingly, no. I would've lost that bet.

Well we are now fast approaching the time when a lot of the musicians we grew up with are going to start exiting the stage.

Joe’s been clean and sober for 20 years. He was very lucky.

They have to be one of the few groups to have hit songs with at least four different vocalists. Don and Glenn, of course, but Tim on “I Can’t Tell You Why” and Randy on “Take It to the Limit.” Joe, Don and Bernie all took lead duties on some songs, but I don’t think they were ever hits (of course, Joe had his own hits).

Bernie Leadon and Patti Davis Reagan lived together back in the 70s IIRC.
