One of the United States' most influential evangelical leaders blasted Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. on Monday for hosting Donald Trump to give a campaign speech.
Russell Moore, who heads the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, let fly a series of tweets after Falwell gave a glowing introduction to Trump, calling him "one of the greatest visionaries of our time" and saying Trump "lives a life of helping others ... as Jesus taught in the New Testament."
Moore appeared incredulous at Falwell's language, which was more effusive than he had been with any other candidate, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz:
Two Corinthians walk into a bar.....
********************************************************************
Trump’s “mistake” on this betrays a UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE BIBLE & CHRISTIANITY in the same way that Obama’s mispronunciation of Corpsman betrayed an UNFAMILIARITY with the military.
When you knowingly lie about what a Candidate said, you lose the debate. Bye now, better luck next time.
He doesn’t speak for this SBC Pastor.
Where then is the law or precedence that changed the original intent of ‘natural born’? Remember now Cruz’s claim to fame is following the “original intent” of the Constitution. Well, that is except for himself.
Just a minor correction: Rev. Jerry Falwell Sr. is dead.
His oldest son, Jerry Falwell Jr., Chancellor of Liberty University, is not a pastor.
The Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church is today Rev. Jonathan Falwell, youngest child of Jerry Falwell Sr.
That said, i see that Jerry Jr. is following in his father's footsteps. You may recall the time when Jerry Sr. brought Sen. Ted Kennedy to Liberty University. Rumour has it that Falwell and Kennedy became friends.
It was pointed out that Trump spoke at this same event, their convocation, in 2012. So now we have a snarky Evangelist complaining? Did he complain about Trump’s association with the school four years ago, and in the interim?
Is he allowed to write and speak about it?
Is he forcing anyone to listen or comply?
(Forcing Baptists? My eyes just rolled to the back of my head.)
Don't you think employees of the Baptist Church have the same First Amendment rights as the rest of us?
Hey, Congratulations you made it to the side bar today!!!!!
That’s what I see happening....
You read the articles, and you can pick up a lot and then you read the posts, and quickly there are those with ‘unhinged’ statements that have nothing to do with the article at all, and when people come here for information and they see that, they just say ‘no thanks’ and give their support to another candidate....
To bad Cruz is going back to Texas, but his supporters did it to him....
Thank you.
Russell Moore is a traitor to the United States and to his fellow Baptists. He is the #1 religious advocate for unrestricted illegal immigration and amnesty, and fights against any and all state restrictions and Federal law enforcement actions. It is a disgrace to the Southern Baptists that they keep this vile man in hid position.
Anyone have the tweets Russell Moore let fly when Bernie spoke there a few weeks ago?
Microagression?
Jan. 16: Cruz, speaking to reporters, dismisses Trump’s tweets: “I think in terms of a commander-in-chief, we ought to have someone who isn’t springing out of bed to tweet in a frantic response to the latest polls. I think the American people are looking for a commander in chief who is stable and steady and a calm hand to keep this country safe.”

Applauding and cheering was not mandatory.
Adhere like the Constitutional Law Professor we have now?
I’m a Southern Baptist and so are many of my friends and neighbors. We support Donald Trump.
It was a glowing introduction. It’s very obvious he admires and likes Donald Trump. :)
well as a Conservative Christian I can tell you that Jerry Falwell Jr’s phone lines are lighting up... I for one also was disappointed in his words.
