One of the United States' most influential evangelical leaders blasted Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. on Monday for hosting Donald Trump to give a campaign speech.
Russell Moore, who heads the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, let fly a series of tweets after Falwell gave a glowing introduction to Trump, calling him "one of the greatest visionaries of our time" and saying Trump "lives a life of helping others ... as Jesus taught in the New Testament."
Moore appeared incredulous at Falwell's language, which was more effusive than he had been with any other candidate, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz:
>>Attendance was mandatory, so the fact that it was packed is kind of immaterial.
Attendance at Convo is always mandatory, but today’s crowd was a record with alumni and visitors filling every extra seat in the building.
For next two weeks thay will do anything, say anything and charge Trump with every crime in the book from voting for Obama to performing partial birth abbortions on baby kittens. The Glen becks and Megyn Kellys of the world will target him in hopes to bring him down.
The Bible wasn’t written in chapters and verses. Paul wrote this second letter to the Corinthians, so, it technically can be called number 2. People are grasping at straws today. Can’t wait for the pools to come out so that more Cruzbots can have spoldy heads.
>>Some of the Trump supporters are also turning people off from him...just food for thought..
Just as some Cruz supporters are turning people off from Cruz. We all need to dial it back a notch and stop assuming that the other side are all idiots, closet liberals, and/or communist double-agents.
You will never understand how much your posts reveal about you, will you.
>>The Art of the Deal is better than the Bible. Of course they would blast Trump. Trump is trying to usher in a new world government where we leave behind borders. Most Christians donât like things like that.
If you are claiming that he said that today, then you would be lying. He specifically said that the bible was MUCH better (I forget the exact words).
Next time he’ll give a quote from Two Condominiums.
Rush said it.
~smile~ I am a Trump supporter, one that will walk over broken glass to vote for him. I loved his speech.
My resolution today is to be nice or not say anything critical to the rabid Cruz supporters or about the Trump hate pieces but I couldnât resist responding to the idiot who penned this piece that I think Mr. Farwell really likes Trump, just to rub it in.
Iâm slipping in my resolution arenât I?
You know what you say about the unhinged Cruzers attacks make it hard for us to turn the other cheek, its soo True.
I would much rather play Ivanka’s ad that is positive and very classy, I guess we can only hope this primary season is over soon.
Cruz’s apology wasn’t convincing to Cruzers so we have to read their “incest hallucinations”. You need a strong stomach not to hurl reading this bilge.
Superstitious fools
Then Rush is lying.
As far as globalism. Trump said that in 2013.
Falwell’s introduction of Donald was glowing. It would bring a tear to your eye.
>>As far as globalism. Trump said that in 2013.
He said that the Art of the Deal is better than the bible in 2013?
Yup; Sanders was there. And didn’t Cruz announce his candidacy at Liberty? (Not sure; but I think he did.) Unlike liberal universities, Christian colleges want their students to hear ALL sides. If the students have been taught right, they’re able to distinguish right from wrong and draw their own conclusions.
OK... that’s funny.
Glad we’re electing a president and not a minister.
Go Trump.
Stop making sense. Yer killin' the buzz.
>>Falwellâs introduction of Donald was glowing. It would bring a tear to your eye.
I loved the way he started with the official LU position on candidates and over the course of the introduction, it morphed into his own personal near-endorsement.
The guy who made a quality Christian education available to people across the entire world and thinks that people should be able to defend themselves also thinks that Trump is the right man in this particular time. Good for Jerry!
