U.S., Iowa farmers favor Trump in Farm Futures poll

Outspoken celebrity businessman Donald Trump likes to talk, and so far farmers appear to be listening. The nationwide frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination also topped the latest Farm Futures Magazine surveys among farmers in both the U.S. and Iowa.

Farm Futures surveyed farmers from Dec. 7 to Jan. 4. That included more than 400 from Iowa, where 37% of those favoring a Republican said they would vote for Trump "if the election were held today." Trump‘s support among GOP farmers was even stronger at 39% from farmers outside Iowa, which holds its first-in-the-nation caucuses Feb. 1.

Wonder if there is any predictive track record on this poll at least as far as Iowa is concerned. Didn’t see anything mentioned in article.

Could this be because Donald Trump is for ethanol subsidies?

Donald Trump attacked Ted Cruz for not supporting ethanol subsidies. He said in Iowa on Friday, "Oil companies give him a lot of money, so he's for oil."

The thing about oil and gas is, it doesn't require big subsidies, because it's the cheapest and most efficient form of fuel for cars. Ethanol, on the other hand, does require big government subsidies, because it is highly uneconomical. Ethanol is much more expensive than oil and gas and, gallon for gallon, produces much less energy than gasoline. That's why the government has to hand over billions in subsidies to big agri-businesses to keep it going. And that's also why the government has to force oil companies to blend ethanol in with their fuels. Because without government coercion, oil companies wouldn't do it, and the price of gasoline would be substantially lower than it is now.

-snip-

That is what subsidizing ethanol gives us. That is what Donald Trump is for and Ted Cruz is against. Ted Cruz is starting to lead in some Iowa polls, and he's doing it without this kind of pandering.

Maybe it’s because what he gives them makes good fertilizer.

Could it be there is no such thing as “ethanol subsidies”? Nice try. The US has renewable fuel standards that are part of the country’s overall energy plan. If Cruz wants the US to rely on Middle East oil, then good for him. Looking forward to some ethanol commercials running in Iowa for the next few weeks.

If you did your own research instead of parroting what is in that article, you’d know that historically, gas, oil, and coal have received 70% of government energy subsidy dollars, and renewables only 9%.

“If Cruz wants the US to rely on Middle East oil, then good for him. “

I seriously doubt Cruz is for Middle East oil, especially when he is from Texas.

Of course they do Trump is in favor of government subsides provided for by the tax payer, it is why he wants to keep the current tax system with just changing the percentages, it is very beneficial to him, but not so much for the average American who is taxed for said subsides.

Yes, I’m sure that’s the reason. Did you use to be a joke-writer for Rosie O’Donnell?
