Will this put any money in my pocket?
The people would become of an abomination.
Read later.
They would no longer be people. There is no thought for the soul, which is immaterial, but which makes human.
Star Trek, as popular as it is, is pure atheistic materialism in philosophy. I don't even think Christians in good conscience can enjoy it without compromise of their beliefs. It is putting falsehood before their eyes.

I keep telling myself the same thing when I twist the throttle too far. I can’t seem to remember not to do it again.
It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.
Interesting definition of memory. That’s like saying a grain of sand has a memory.
Whenever I see something like this I ask myself:
Why would they want to do something like this?
Who’s paying for the research?
What’s the end gal, and
Who’s going to profit from it?
As the soul has not physical component, but is supposedly a part of the consciousness, one would assume it would go along for the ride.
However, I think I see what you're getting at: This method could, of course, create multiple versions of the same consciousness. At that moment the new multiple individuals would essentially become different persons with the same past history.
From a theological standpoint, there is no reason to think that God would not create a soul for each individual, or that He would not have foreseen this development in the first place. The alternative is sentient beings without a soul, and this is something I find more difficult to contemplate.
Whenever I see something like this I ask myself:
Why would they want to do something like this?
Who’s paying for the research?
What’s the end goal, and
Who’s going to profit from it?
This is “Theoretical Physics,” as opposed to “Experimental Physics.”

There is other science fiction with religious themes.
When physicists speak of "memory," they are referring to "information." In that sense, even subatomic particles have memory.
Yes! Yes! I see it now!
Suddenly, it’s all clear to me!
The membrane oscillator!
Of course!
Now I can be in two places at the same time!
That way, twice as many people can hate me.
