Trump Won

For some time now, people who believe in the theory of Donald Trump's inevitable demise have thought that he'd either say something so outrageous that voters would finally reject him or he'd perform so poorly in debates that voters would flee to more polished candidates. Well, it's safe to say that the outrageous comments theory had been discredited, and - after tonight's debate - it's clear that Trump isn't going to beat himself in direct competition with his colleagues. ...

The bottom line? Going into the debate, Trump had a solid lead. There was nothing that happened to dissuade Trump's followers. Indeed, he likely inspired the plurality that support him - persuading them that he's ready for more debates, including an ultimate confrontation with Hillary Clinton.

I’m afraid you argue like a libtard. No logic, just name calling and sliming.

New York has held Texas in contempt for years. Funny how that fact is never pointed out by the concern trolls who are offended by Cruz’s remarks.

I thought Cruz had a pretty good moment when he took on the birther question, but after considering it, I think Trump won that moment too. Despite an excellent response from Cruz, the question is still out there. Trump with his focus on a Democrat lawsuit if Cruz is the nominee turned the discussion toward what is good for the party. He did not have to argue Cruz eligibility, he simply brought up it could be a distraction. If that moves 10% of the voters away from Cruz, then it is a victory for Trump.

Cult of Trump. The old egomaniacal populist bastard wants to “make” America great.

Cruz or Lose.

Trump had a very, very good night. Cruz, not so much. Poll movement, or not, will be interesting.

Every pronouncement of "he won" is empty and meaningless. It's opinion, and we all obviously have different opinions on the top guys. The ONLY thing to actually WIN happens in about 2 weeks, in Iowa, and thereafter. Until then, these pronouncements of "he won", with absolute certainty, are just goofy, as are the poop-flinging arguments that come afterwards.

My kid did good. Yours did too. Nice pageant. Let's move on.

Freerepublic wasn't always this bad, was it? Maybe my memories are fuzzy and happy, but I don't recall this volume of goofiness around election time before.

I think Trump won that moment too. Despite an excellent response from Cruz, the question is still out there.

It's on replay at Fox business news. Trump was even solid there countering enough Cruz's points. I personally could take Cruz apart, but I've been studying this thing in the last 8 years.

He did not have to argue Cruz eligibility, he simply brought up it could be a distraction. If that moves 10% of the voters away from Cruz, then it is a victory for Trump.

You win the analysis.

I’ve appreciated the issues Trump’s brought up during the campaign, but was honestly asking myself if I wanted this guy to be my President, or a proven conservative Cruz. After last night I have no doubt whatsoever. Donald Trump was clearly the sharpest, toughest, and most capable man on the stage.

Trump could french kiss Barrack Obama on camera...
The problem is that other candidates (Christie, Rubio, Bush) have been caught doing these things with GOP leadership, the CoC, and even Democrats at the expense of the country and people. I like Trump and Cruz and the others are disqualified for me because I've seen them figuratively do what you're saying. If I see Trump or Cruz do these things I'm more than willing to change my mind.

Yes, I realize that Trump has said different things in the past. But I think he sincerely wants to do what's best for the country rather than the party and that we (he and I) are enough in agreement on what that means that I'll take some bad with the good. And I think he has the executive/management/negotiating skills to make a lot of that good happen.

The short article is saying “We are acknowledging Trump somewhat but Rubio won.”

The amazing thing to me is that Trump is going against a TRAINED debater...a guy who led a championship team in college ...whose whole stock in trade is wordsmithing.
Even Rubio knocked Ted around pretty well. Ted’s little birther statement was obviously prepared and rather bizarre when he brought up “some extremists” who say you have to have 2 American citizens born on the soil and then be born on the soil yourself. This just reminded me of Hillary and her bizarre nonsense while trying to make her no good excuses...similar strategy. I actually didn’t think TC’s defense was all that clever - how about actual law as a defense, not B.S.?

When was the last time the world leaders stood on a stage and debated the issues and then the one declared “winner” got his way?

Cruz mistakenly assumed it was an actual debate. He foolishly tried to win a real debate. In doing so, he lost.

He’s supposed to be smart. It seems he tries to imitate Reagan and others.

It’s a two-man race between the two best men. Fantastic.

(Unless you love the status quo).

May the best man win, and may America become a winner again.
