Quentin Tarantinoâs âThe Hateful Eightâ is a box-office disaster, and the police officers who boycotted the movie are taking credit for its disappointing ticket sales.
The violent Western was released on Christmas Day and has grossed $42.9 million so far. At this rate, itâs set to barely pass its production budget of $50 million â meaning big losses for the Weinstein Co., which spent another $25 million to $35 million on prints and promotion.
Police Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch, the first union official to call for a boycott of the film, said, âWith nearly 1 million law enforcement officers in this country who have families and friends who support them, the impact that police have economically on a product or project is immense. The law enforcement boycott of cop-hater Quentin Tarantinoâs movie is one demonstration of that economic power.â
Lynch called for the boycott after Tarantino spoke at an Oct. 24 anti-cop rally in New York. âIâm a human being with a conscience,â Tarantino said. âAnd when I see murder, I cannot stand by .â.â. I have to call the murderers the murderers.â

Customer is king, thus not always prudent to upset those who will give you money.
I definitely would not pay to see this movie in a theater due to this jackass’s comments about police. I might watch it on YouTube for free though.
“If you insult them, they will come.”
“Oh, really? Hold mah popcorn and watch this.”
I have watched and enjoyed almost every Tarantino movie, but there was no way I was going to watch this.
I won’t see it specifically because Quentin Tarantino directed it and racist Samuel Jackson is in it.
BTW - Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’ is one of the most overrated movies ever. Gratuitous violence seems to be his style.
May Tarantino suffer the fate of Bin Ladin. He is a true t*rd, deserving a flushing.
You’re either with us or from Hollywood.
Me too, also not interested in a Capital One card for the same reason.
Maybe the movie is just a stinker.
Nope....not going to watch it.
I few years ago I saw the trailer for the film Hanna and was very intrigued and intended to see it in the theater. Then I read an interview with the director where he said that all Republicans are stupid and racist. So I changed my mind and didn’t go. Of course, the film tanked. Why would any rational person do what he did, and anger half (or more, of his potential audience? What’s the gain?
The Hateful Eight is bombing at the box office because the novelty is gone from Tarantino’s one-trick-pony act and everyone is finally waking up to how horrible his films are. I have not seen one movie by him that I thought was good. Pulp Fiction and Sin City were OK — not good; just OK — and the rest were trash.
At least be like the South Park guys who insult both. I can live with that.
Moronic. First, I can tell you that not all 1 million police are PBA members. Secondly, I can tell you that not all PBA members avoided the movie. Thirdly, even if the first two facts ere ignored, 1 million out of 330 million is nothing close to "immense".
Tarantino is a man with a troubled soul.
It could also be that Tarantino’s movies suck
I saw Inglorious Basterds because my son really wanted me to see it with him. It was mildly entertaining but basically silly. I couldn’t make it through Pulp Fiction. 10 minutes of Django Unchained was all I could manage.
Most Tarantino movies have a dark style of humor amongst the blood and violence and foul language that I also enjoy to a point. Maybe its also the shock factor. At the same time, upon walking out one realizes the movies are really just entertaining crap with no real virtues.
I didn’t know that about _Hanna_; saw it (free).
While certainly not a bad movie, it was NOT something the general public would get excited about in large $$$. The story was emotionally straining, with lots of visceral violence ... not “fun” by any means.
_Hateful_8_ may very well be the same: good for what it is, but most of the general public has a limit to the visceral emotional strain they’re willing to pay for when seeking a fun couple hours.
