3 winners and 3 losers from Thursday night's Republican presidential debate

"I will gladly accept the mantle of anger" is an instantly memorable line, perhaps the one quote from this debate that will be recalled weeks and months into the future. And it taps into a real feeling about the GOP base: that most candidates are disconnected and only understand their frustrations in the abstract. The Atlantic's Molly Ball put it well:

All the other candidates say "Americans are angry, and I understand." Trump says, "I’M angry." — Molly Ball (@mollyesque) January 15, 2016

It was the best debate yet. I thought everyone other than Carson did well. I'm not really sure how he's still relevant. Even Bush had his best debate performance though he still lags seriously on the outside.

It's going to be fun.

I think Carson had the best line of the night. After being challenged by Neal Cavuto for asserting his rights of rebuttal for being mentioned (when he in fact wasn’t) Carson replied “Well, yea. You said Everyone”.

I think Carson is popular because he’s the only one smoking pot right before the debate.

Kasich and Bush did well in your opinion?

Really sad when the author claims the “truth was the loser” then lied shamelessly about what the “Truth is”.

MOST of the refugees streaming into Europe from Syria are young military age males. That is a well document fact. Because it challenge the author political ideological dogmas, he simply lied about it.

Agreed. Indeed, if Rubio can’t pull up some numbers pretty quick, we have a two man race.

And I’m loving it.

If Rubio fades, to whom do his supporters go?

Make that 4 losers - include the American people. Everyone was running against Obama and he’s not running. People want to know what the candidate will do if elected not their attitude toward Obama. What a crock.

“”And it taps into a real feeling about the GOP base””

I disagree. This goes way beyond the GOP base (what ever that is?)

*ALL* Americans want security and opportunity.

Trump is forcing leftist group thinkers to stare at the truth and there is nothing the mind guards can do to prevent it except offer obvious incorrect rationalizations.

Black is not white no matter how hard you try to disprove it.

That's a tough call. A lot of them will split Jeb/Christie, since they are the other leading establishment candidates. The establishment might also try to push Kasich, as an insider who hasn't really been considered enough to say that voters rejected him, in which case some or even a lot of Rubio's supporters go to Kasich. A lot of them also go to Cruz. Rubio and Cruz come across as similar on the issues, other than Amnesty (and integrity, but that's not considered an issue), so Cruz will pick up a significant number of Rubio supporters. I'd guess that outsider Trump is not popular with pro-Amnesty insider Rubio's voters.

Nah, I kind of forgot about Kasich. Nuff said. Bush did well in the sense that it was his BEST performance by far. But he still didn’t improve his horrid standing. He was more forceful, more energetic and it was good to see him go after Clinton. All that said, he still can’t deliver a line without stammering and looking unsure of himself.

Yes and no. To them, Obama = Clinton. Criticize the administration - which she was a major part of - and you criticize her - especially when she says she agrees with his policies.

If she says she disagrees, then you ask - well then what the hell were you doing for the last 8 years? Just going along??

Well if the GOP candidates were really saying Clinton for Obama, they should have said Clinton. But they didn’t say what their administration would do. Like Reagan cited 4 things he wanted to do. [Sorry, I didn’t feel like googling to list them.]

Obama ran against George Bush in 2008...and won!

Heck, Obama ran against Bush in 2012 and won again.

Also, when I see Jebbie, I don’t believe much of anything he says. I find him like Orrin Grant Hatch was in 2000.
