U.S. stocks traded sharply lower Friday after a slew of disappointing U.S. data, a fresh plunge in oil to below $30 a barrel and a sell-off in Chinese stocks that added to mounting concerns about slowing global growth.

"Simply put, we're not talking about a wall of worry right now. We're talking about a mountain," said Ryan Larson, head of equity trading, U.S., RBC Global Asset Management (U.S.).

"It's not anything new. It's the continued persistence of global growth concerns," he said.

quote “It’s not anything new. It’s the continued persistence of global growth concerns,”

almost got it right.

he should have said

“it’s not anything new. It’s the continued presence of Obama as the president of the United States that is the issue.”

So what we have been getting these last few days is just the prelude of the dead cat falling from terrace to terrace, getting a bounce one time before it again plunges over the edge, and continues what will be a monumental final drop?

Electronic dollars being devoured in the furnace of market corrections. Much of the money that has been poured into the stock market in the past seven years is all “Manufactured” electronic dollars, by big institutional buyers, and created by monetizing the debt. Trouble is, it looks just like REAL dollars, representing somebody else’s REAL investments, and they get burned up exactly the same way.

Is anything going to be left on the other side? We shall need seed money to get the system going again.

I’m used to valuing stocks in terms of debt/equity or price/earnings, but with no standard to measure against, I have no idea what 800 times free cash flow implies. It may well be a bargain. Amazon is a fantastic company.

I though this was the way Casino’s operated? Lure people in, easy money to be won, then when you get them feeling like they are on top of the World, Take Your Profits and bankrupt the sucker.

The world's equities markets will have to "work off" the economic issues in China. I expect DJIA to be between 11,000 and 12,000 by the middle of this year, when the bargain hunters sitting on over $2 trillion in liquid assets will jump in.

Thanks. So is 800 a bad number, or does it indicate that Amazon, even though a solid performer now, is still capitalizing heavily, which indicates strong future growth? Or does it mean they aren’t capitalizing enough, leaving an ocean of money on hand, which is an excellent buffer against contingencies? In other words, so what?
