Ted Cruz told reporters, who once again asked about the Trumped-up phony eligibility claims, that Trump is disturbed that conservatives are rallying behind him, and that he’s only attacking him because he’s losing in Iowa:
Cruz: Trump is worried because he's trailing in Iowa (Video)
It’s so true that Trump is disturbed. Remember when Ben Carson was leading in Iowa? Trump told Iowans they were stupid for supporting Carson and accused Carson of having some ‘pathological condition’.
When Trump is a desperate man he’ll say anything to win, no matter how ridiculous and dishonest. And his fervent Trumpers will follow right along, not even noticing their own blatant hypocrisy. They’ll passionately defend Trump when he mocks a disabled journalist, but when Trump tells them to question Cruz’s eligibility (even though it is not in question), they go all in.
Honesty is not something that Trump employs when he gets desperate and even though his fervent followers really don’t care, I hope it will be his undoing.
Seems I missed all the fun!
Your statement may be true for you but if anyone points out inconsistencies from Trump no matter how innocently observed, to most supporters, attacking the messenger is all I ever notice.
I am like a lot of people on Free republic. I support Trump and Cruz.
I think Cruz is more conservative. But I also think Trump has some advantages when it comes to winning against the media and getting things done once in office.
My ideal would be Trump-Cruz.
Wish the silliness and pettiness would die down here and on the campaign trail.
agreed. Passions get going , but we have t remember that the establishment wants both sets of voters to tear each other apart while they think they can get their guy in.
Just an hour ago. JimRob pulled it himself.
I didn’t catch the name, But he seemed to assume that most Trump supporters were new sign-ups because he checked some random posters joining dates.
The hilarious part was all of the people that were here since the 90s pointing out how they are backing Trump, and were far from newbies!
It seems to me that those who do point out inconsistencies with Trump expect people to stampede in one direction or another once any inconsistency has been highlighted, and they become dismayed or even angry when that does not occur.
Personally, I don’t care what Trump says from one day to the next. He make all sorts of appearances, and he says all sorts of things right off the cuff. Is it possible to find differences in what he says from one day to the next? Yep.
And I’ll even go further. Do I think Trump was a democrat
until recently? Yes. Do I think Trump is more liberal on some things than I am? Yes. He’s a man from New York, and New York is not generally known for producing staunch conservatives.
But there are other things that I know about Trump that appeal to me. He loves America. He knows she is falling, and he wants to right her direction. He’s an honest man. When he speaks to people, it’s clear he’s not lying. He has not practiced slick lines to deliver like Rubio clearly has. He speaks like he is sitting across a dinner table from me in language that I use, and that is endearing to me. And he is an honorable man.
But the main thing that appeals to me about trump is that he is not in the Washington Club at all, and they do not want him there at all, and sending him to Washington would be akin to pumping bleach into a sewer, and that is something I would really like to see.
That cartoon I linked really describes exactly how I feel, and exactly what I want to do. It really is a perfect illustration to me.
Most of them are civil service. It would be illegal to fire them all. Are you suggesting that trump would break the law? Are you criticizing Sen. Cruz because he wouldn’t break the law?
Who was the silly sod who posted the newest one? I can’t imagine it be the same guy who posted the first one. You would think he had learned his lesson.
Ah never mind my question, just saw you answering someone already asking it.
You, like I, are interested in winning for a change. (We actually did win in 2010 & 2014 but our "winners actually turned out to be liars and turncoats when what they ran to do wasn't actually true. They ran to get in on the gravy train, like their posers already there.)
Unfortunately, those candidates who were elected turned out to be bigger liars than DemocRATS.
At least the rats don't even bother to lie anymore, knowing their followers will never hold them to their lies. That's what impressed me the most about Cruz, he was willing to go on radio and TV and called McConnell a liar!
“But the main thing that appeals to me about trump is that he is not in the Washington Club at all,”
I appreciate your reasoned posting about why you support Trump. In full disclosure, I support Cruz and I doubt that I could actually vote for Trump. I have many specific issues with him, but I won’t bore you with that drivel in this post.
I did want to address this comment from you. I do hear this pretty consistently from Trump’s supporters. May I ask, in all honesty I am wondering, how do you square this assertion with the fact that he admits to “buying off” politicians? I consider that behavior to be as damaging to our Republic as the politicians that take donations and then provide the favors. He may not have held any office, but he has surely participated in the system that we all say needs to change!
Much like my disdain for the Chamber of Commerce’s cronyism, I have difficulty considering Trump to be “not part of the system at all.”
Yes, I found that impressive by Cruz as well. McConnell is a truly filthy liar.
And he also apparently holds grudges against people who point that out.
On that I figure that seeing how Trump owns a number of businesses in democrat cities, he had to grease wheels to get them turning.
I know that’s how it was in New Orleans when I lived there. You you wanted to do business, you are going to have to navigate pols with their hands out.
If you wanted to do big business that involves any sort of approval or action by city pols, you are going to have to pay to play, and that is all there is to it. If you do not scratch their backs, they will stab you in yours. Corrupt all day long.
So seeing as how his businesses are generally casinos, resorts, golf courses and things of that nature, I know he has had to play the game of paying various politicians in order to proceed.
If you think Trump could win CA or NY you are truly delusional.
OK, I see your position and do appreciate your honesty regarding Trump’s participation in the corrupt system. In my opinion, that makes him as much of the problem as the politicians that are involved. If I am reading your response correctly, then it is just an acceptable part of doing business for Trump, so it’s OK for you.
I can’t square a “he’s not part of the elite ruling class of DC” point with his admission that he participates in the corruption. In addition, he bragged about giving donations to Hillary, so that she would come to his wedding. That sends me the message that if he is not considered part of the elite ruling class yet, then he certainly wants to be part of that very club.
That leads me to not be able to accept the position that “he is not part of the DC club.”
Thank you again for your reasoned response, and other postings of support for Trump. I do appreciate that we can disagree, but discuss it reasonably.
Yes, I think that is what happened, and I do not hold it against him.
Unfortunately for us, we have parasitic politicians who intentionally make obstacles of themselves in order to enrich themselves.
I don’t hold it against Trump for greasing the wheels to get what he wanted. At least that is my perception of what he did knowing what democrat controlled cities are like.
I hold it against the elected politicians of those cities, and no doubt of the state and federal government too.
All they care about is money and power.
