The Guardian headline writer doesn’t quite understand who is “police” and who is not.

Normally, I’d not like them mentioning the races of all the parties, but, in this case, it shows that nobody was targeted because of their race.

Just for reference; Constable is an elected position in PA. Just VERY recently they got authority to write traffic tickets and other Summary Offenses. Training has been negligible, don’t know how good it is to this day. Sherriff’s Deputies in PA are pretty much in the same classification, just less so.

The father is responsible for the death of his daughter, apparently.

When Steele approached the apartment, Ciara's father, Donald Meyer, allegedly opened and then shut the door before opening it a second time armed with a rifle, officials said. Steele and Meyer exchanged words briefly before Meyer "leveled" the rifle at Steele, according to police. Steele fired a single shot at Meyer, who was struck in the upper left arm before his daughter was hit, police said. If (and that's a big if) this happened the way police said it did, the officer was justified in shooting at the father and this is a tragic accident.

For those who advocate shooting at limbs instead of center of mass, this is a perfect example of just one of the reasons why it’s a bad idea.

The headline is a lie, as usual. Try this:
“Man aims gun at police, police shoot at man, accidentally kill his daughter.” But that’s too long, and isn’t sensational enough to get people to read the article.

My question is, why is the father still alive? Assuming the story is true, this guy pointed a firearm at a law enforcement officer causing that officer to fear for his life and respond with deadly force. Why did the officer only fire one shot? I thought training/doctrine is to fire center mass until the threat is removed? Maybe that first shot center mass was well off target, hit the arm and the guy dropped the weapon in shock? Tragic situation how ever it played out.

While technically accurate, this headline is about the worst yellow journalism you're likely to see.
Something like "Police officer forced to defend himself from armed threat shoots perp who was endangering his child by his unlawful actions. Bullet passed through perp and killed child. Perp will be prosecuted for murder." would be accurate.
