Ted Cruz Didn't Disclose Loan From Goldman Sachs for His First Senate Campaign
NYTimes ^ | 1/13/2016 | Mike McIntire

As Ted Cruz tells it, the story of how he financed his upstart campaign for the United States Senate four years ago is an endearing example of loyalty and shared sacrifice between a married couple.

"Sweetheart, I'd like us to liquidate our entire net worth, liquid net worth, and put it into the campaign," he says he told his wife, Heidi, who readily agreed.

But the couple's decision to pump more than $1 million into Mr. Cruz's successful Tea Party-darling Senate bid in Texas was made easier by a large loan from Goldman Sachs, where Mrs. Cruz works. That loan was not disclosed in campaign finance reports. Those reports show that in the critical weeks before the May 2012 Republican primary, Mr. Cruz — currently a leading contender for his party’s presidential nomination — put "personal funds" totaling $960,000 into his Senate campaign. Two months later, shortly before a scheduled runoff election, he added more, bringing the total to $1.2 million — "which is all we had saved," as Mr. Cruz described it in an interview with The New York Times several years ago.

A review of personal financial disclosures that Mr. Cruz filed later with the Senate does not find a liquidation of assets that would have accounted for all the money he spent on his campaign. What it does show, however, is that in the first half of 2012, Ted and Heidi Cruz obtained the low-interest loan from Goldman Sachs, as well as another one from Citibank. The loans totaled as much as $750,000 and eventually increased to a maximum of $1 million before being paid down later that year. There is no explanation of their purpose. Neither loan appears in reports the Ted Cruz for Senate Committee filed with the Federal Election Commission...

Everyday Americans get loans to start businesses,

Cruz didn't disclose it to the FEC nor to his voters, whom he was telling he was giving up his personal fortune to represent.

The Slimes must’ve gotten the all-clear to launch in on Cruz.

From the NYT article, “These transactions have been reported in one way or another on his many public financial disclosures and the Senate campaign’s F.E.C. filings,” she said [campaign representative].

Thank you for posting this. Someone just called me a ‘liar’ for asking quesitons about Cruz. That kind of partizanship makes me get a little callous about Cruz’ career.

I had favored Cruz on ethanol, favored him wining Iowa, lately inclined to favor him on immigration, but I’ll be ...
‘DAMMED’ ... if Cruz-bots are going to stop me from vetting the guy and asking questions!!!!!!!

TRUMP DOESN’T OWE ANYONE A FREAKING PENNY!

That IS an important issue!

Bet they’d love to launch on Trump too. When Mitch Mc-Conman’s ‘G’ OP hates a republican so much that they take their one big shot — their response-to-Obama — and launch on Trump ... Heh ... the drive-bys probably want to just as bad.

That’s because trump declares bankruptcy so he doesn’t have to pay them back.

It’s to Trump’s credit that he had to rebuild without his inheritance. Thanks for reminding me.

I normally try to be judicious, but after being so insulted on another thread, I’m a little ‘partizan’ at the moment.

[Deep breath.]

Okay, some things I like about Cruz ...

Cruz: ‘We Need Quite A Few Constitutional Amendments’
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3381654/posts

“Ted Cruz: Trump Will Let Deported Immigrants Back In, I Won’t”
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3379878/posts

Cruz Against Big Ethanol
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3381754/posts

Been posting that all over the place.

But .... no ... on other threads I’m just some liar-for-Trump.

McConnell: No, Senate won’t pass resolution affirming Cruz’s eligibility like it did for McCain
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3382813/posts

Why can Mc-Conman do this? Because he has a revered creep — Professor Laurence Tribe, undermining Cruz [regarding natural born status].

Tribe is a creep, Mc-Conman is a creep, and they flock together.

The key to unraveling this is to completely obliterate Tribe’s aura of intellectual ‘superiority’.

If Cruz can’t do it, NO ONE can. He made a little stab at it here:

Ted Cruz: Are Democrats Behind Trump’s Citizenship Questions? [where he riducules Trump for quoting Tribe]
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-gop/3382891/posts

Cruz should challenge Tribe to a fair debate [no moderators, just a timer] and tear the guy open. Until he does that or something equally effective, this issue will fester.

Maybe this will get the ball rolling on all the candidates getting a full vetting by the media on financial issues...or Hillary at the very least.

Here is an example of something needing vetting. Apparently, Trump uses his corporation to support his campaign. The charge is out there. Trump needs to realize the Democrats will use this against him in the general election. Let's be helpful. Clear it up now, Donald. Before the Democrats use this against you.

Minor v. Happersett: In Minor v. Happersett (1874), children born on U.S. soil were divided into two classes: those whose parents were U.S. citizens, and those whose parents were not. Curiously, the Supreme Court used the word “foreigner” in a discussion that was solely and exclusively about children born in the United States.

According to the Court, the members of the first class (U.S.-born children of U.S.-citizen parents) were not foreigners; they were “distinguished from” foreigners. Nevertheless, the fact that the discussion was about U.S.-born children only, and the fact that the word “foreigner” appeared at all in this context, leads us to suspect that children born in the United States, of non-U.S.-citizen parents, may have been “foreigners” in at least some cases.

...it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. (Minor v. Happersett, 1874, boldface emphasis added)

Where is this Democrat rag’s anal exam of Hillary’s campaign funds? She and her HINO fixed their “mistakes” of not filing income reports from thei money laundering “foundation” by filing amended forms and not a peep from the NYT. Ted Cruz should file his amendment and tell the Democrat media to pound sand. There should not be a different standard for Republicans than for Democrats.

Another excerpt:

"There would have been nothing improper about Mr. Cruz obtaining bank loans for his campaign, as long as they were disclosed. But such a disclosure might have conveyed the wrong impression for his candidacy.

Mr. Cruz, a conservative former Texas solicitor general, was campaigning as a populist firebrand who criticized Wall Street bailouts and the influence of big banks in Washington. It is a theme he has carried into his bid for the Republican nomination for president".

Ted is what he always was, a fraud politician who will say and do anything to get elected.

Thank you for the information. If there’s something to this, Cruz can use it. Better now than after the primary.

Taking out a loan of that size involves personal risk and ssacrifice. When was the last time you asked your spouse to take out a loan that big?
