How Donald Trump made the birther attack on Ted Cruz stick
The Washington Post ^ | 01/13/2016 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 01/13/2016 7:37:31 PM PST by ScottWalkerForPresident2016

Eight days ago, Donald Trump floated the idea that Ted Cruz might cause Republicans some legal headaches if he won the GOP presidential nomination because he was born in Canada -- albeit to a mother who was and is a U.S. citizen.

Today, Cruz's citizenship -- and the questions surrounding it -- is the single most dominant issue in the Republican race and has, without question, slowed Cruz's momentum in Iowa and nationally.

It's a perfect case study in both how Trump attacks and how he's able to so effectively sidetrack his opponents.

Because so few even knew where he was born. He led people to believe he was born in Texas so it causes hesitation in undecided voters. It is not at all about the pundits or what Levin or Trump say. It is about voters wondering what he is hiding. Ted has been telling his life story for years on big stages. He did not think his birthplace would come up on national stage?

Or maybe it’s the leftist media gratefully walking through the door that someone conveniently opened for them.

*******************************************************

The rats would have opened that door all by themselves if Cruz became the nominee. Hillary has a huge load of negative baggage, they’d love to hang something on Cruz or Trump. So far they have found nothing on Trump.

Hit the mat? Are you high? Fight hasn't begun? Fight started day he announced. You are joking around and I do not have time for your silliness.

Rule #1 - give some thought before picking a FReeper name.

******************************************************

My grand daughter chose to use her first name at F.R. and now wishes she had chosen a neutral name such as “plain talk”

She’s been here 12 years plus and doesn’t want to start over as a “noob”

I think they are just holding their Trump cards for now.

“Trumps stepped into his own crap!”

Where is it? There are/were 15 other Republicans running that would love to step in Trump’s crap and land where Trump is today.

I don’t think it’s sidetracked Cruz. Cruz just keeps talking issues.

Losing credibility? Appears not...polls in Iowa very tight, he leads in the next several primary states by double digits...leads double or more nationally...

There is Jus Soli and Jus Sanguinis.

Some people are Jus Soli and not Jus Sanguinis.
Anchor babies, for example.

Some people are Jus Sanguinis and not Jus Soli. Like McCain.

The founders were very educated men.
They wanted no possibility of outside influence at all.

And they said “natural born citizen”, not just citizen.

Not one votes been cast...not one....the gate is Iowa for the race to move on the track. ......you want a wrestling match when it's thoroughbred racehorses running.

You remind of one of the wrestling fans at wws or whatever it's called....they know full well it's 'wrestling of the absurd' but it makes no difference to them.....they bask in the pageantry, the big entrances, the catchphrase that the fans can chant along with the wrestlers......The fans love to hear them insult their opponent in the most creative way that's possible and then to hear them talk in soundbites that can easily get repeated in all the news that follows...

You might well rather be attending a wrestling match then the horse race that this is. Trump will soon see it's not wrestling .....

This is the "RACE" the Election is about....

This is the "Fight" Trump is trying to make it..

Cruz was born a US citizen so why is his citizenship an issue?

Nobody disputes he was a citizen. The issue is whether a person born a US citizen in another country is a natural born citizen. I happen to think it is, but there are legal arguments on both sides, and the Supreme Court has never ruled on it. Until they do, or Cruz drops out it will remain an issue.

Cruz better fight—get some scolars and supream Court people to say he is Natural Born. If Trump can use it—you can bet Hillary, or Bernie or Biden will.

Where is the statement where Trump definitively said Cruz was not eligible?

He stepped in it....the fact you asked "where" would indicate you still think the odor is perfume......

It's not about other candidates wanting the following Trump has....it's the utter stupidy of the masses who believe getting on the Trump train will get them to their destination...it's not headed there....Trump wants the popularity no matter where it comes from.....to get himself to where HE wants to be...not you nor the public....

Some of us can see that...others are caught in the web of the deception he's handing out......the guys a rhino....he may well be a fighting rhino but a rhino he is....
