After months of responding to Donald Trump's attacks by deflecting them, joking about them or just plain ignoring them, Ted Cruz struck back late Tuesday with a stream of pointed criticism directed at the GOP front-runner.
At events in New Hampshire and in radio interviews, Cruz took direct aim at Trump on several fronts: tying the billionaire to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, questioning his ability to win a general election, casting doubt on his ability to serve as commander in chief and disputing his "New York values."
The swiftness and ferocity of the attacks is striking for Cruz, who said as recently as Monday that he didn't want to go to war with Trump. The two men are battling for the top spot in polls in Iowa, which host the first-in-the-nation caucuses Feb. 1. Cruz said Tuesday that Trump was clearly feeling the pressure.
Cruz took direct aim at Trump's competence. "Does a potential commander in chief know what the nuclear triad is, much less is he or she prepared and able to strengthen it and keep this country safe?" Cruz asked on "The Hugh Hewitt Show." In a Republican debate last month, Trump was asked about the nuclear triad and had trouble with the explanation.
And he jabbed Trump on the billionaire's cosmopolitan lifestyle. “I think he may shift in his new rallies to playing New York, New York, because Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values,†Cruz told Carr.

The situation is what it is. I support Cruz but will not hate Trump but I have my concerns.
One note: Cruz is guesting on a RINOstream media program in this story, Salem’s “Hugh Hewitt Show”. He’s certainly playing to Hewitt’s biases with his critique of Trump.

It’s been theorized, not established. Reagan Democrats pretty much became Republicans starting in the 80’s. That is why the South, which was solidly Democratic then, is now solidly Republican. That was how the GOP took back the House, by sweeping the South. While it’s possible Trump is winning some black voters, he’s probably turning off an equal number of Hispanic voters. The GOP normally gets 10% of the black vote. Add 10% for Trump and deduct 20% from the Hispanic vote (normally 70% for the Dems) and it’s a push. Many Hispanics may not vote for Cruz, but the odds are good that they won’t vote *against* him by voting for Hillary.
Well, with New York gays, it's always the bottom .... something or other.
Trump is pro-gay marriage. That's another bottom line.
Trump has changed. I highly doubt he will appoint his sister.
Anyone who tries to stop Trump will be greatly appreciated by the GOPe. Most anyone should get that.

Well, there’s the U.S. Constitution for one thing. Take a wrecking ball to DC and you might not like everything that ends up destroyed.
Trump, though, is a wrecking ball. And we don’t even know which side he’ll end up destroying. Maybe he’ll just start making deals like he’s been doing all his life, settling on the deals where he personally comes out the best.
Cruz is also a wrecking ball, but I believe he’ll use the Constitution to do the wrecking. And I’ve no doubt that what he wants destroyed in DC is exactly what most of us here, both Trump supporters and Cruz supporters, want to see wrecked, permanently if possible.
Given the present situation in this country, and the anger among the middle class voters, either one stands an excellent chance of beating Hillary, or Bernie if it comes to that. Why not go with the candidate that we know will tackle the very issues we’ve been addressing in here for going on two decades now? Why leave it to chance, when we know exactly where Cruz stands on most of the important issues, but have to guess where Trump will come down on most of them? After all, Donald Trump has never cast a legislative vote nor signed a single piece of legislation in his life. He’s a blank canvas when it comes to policy, or worse, one with several conflicting layers.
Cruz or lose. America.
We are completely in agreement. Apart from Cruz, Trump is better than the other GOP alternatives because of his stance on immigration. Even if Trump keeps his word on immigration, Congress will have to keep him on the straight and narrow vis-a-vis his other policy choices, which seem to be an a la carte assortment of ideas from right and left.
Yeah, he has always rubbed me the wrong way like Santorum, and seems to be morphing into that role as well as the personality.
There have been several reports that Cruz’s PAC(s) are doing telephone surveys in Iowa, testing a list of critical statements about Trump to see which ones bring the most negative reaction from the respondents, then to be used in negative ads. Some of Ted’s psych-ops that have also been mentioned.
I guess using criticism concerning real differences on issues never occurred to the Cruz goons. The more I learn about this Cruz character, the less I think of him.

Yeah, that Trump is a regular Patton alright.
The nation was not at war when Cruz went to college. The same could not be said of Trump.
HE IS A DRAFT DODGER.
It’s about time. He’s certainly the most conservative candidate. But that would be a disadvantage when it comes to the general election.

Trump is not just winning southern whites, but blue collar, working class voters all over the US. And he’s doing well among many Latino citizens who’ve been in the US for several generations.
A lot of noise about Trump is coming from Latino activists, but those who have been citizens for generations often have different perspectives.
Be careful about declaring it could be a landslide.
There are already millions of illegal alien insurgent invading criminals that are voters.
Motor voter. Lot of states are giving illegal non citizens DLs. Check the box that says are you a citizen with a yes and you are a voter.
Add that to ACORN, still alive and active in every state under other names, signs up people (mostly those that will vote dem) and many times votes for them.
Plus don’t forget all the dead dems that vote every election.
And the fact that Soros has businesses that makes vote machines (Soros people count the votes) and they are in many states
Probably at this stage need a 25% margin of legal voters to counter the illegal ones.
This is what the dems depend on.
Actually, that is improving my opinion of Cruz. He fights. Lee Atwater-style. In response to Trump's Atwater-style birther attacks. I was beginning to think Cruz had no offense.
