I have tried to listen pretty closely and this seems to be new for Trump. It does not mean that he actually agrees or approves of who Reagan was or what he did.

He wrote that 7 years after Reagan’s election, History and context sometimes take decades to understand.

Trump is a good public communicator like Reagan. I just hope his politics prove similar too

Don’t most Republican candidates aspire to be more like Reagan? I don’t think that it’s a bad thing.

That first paragraph is very interesting coming from Trump in light of this campaign. I hope he means it.

I seriously doubt that Rush will end up affectionately referring to Trump as “DONALDUS MAGNUS”. Trump would never deserve that honor after he gets through with “picking winners and losers” and, otherwise, pandering.

Trump’s campaign is strategically very similar to Reagan’s: take issues that conservatives and moderates agree on and fight the media and the Party establishment by going directly to the voters.
Of course he is no Reagan, but his campaign is very Reaganesque.

Hah! Since Trump knows he’s a conman, and thinks Reagan was a conman, he thinks he’s just like Reagan.

From Trumps’ article, “Ronald Reagan is another example. He is so smooth and so effective a performer and he completely won over the American people. Only now, seven years later, we are beginning to wonder whether there is anything beneath that smile”.

Well, he did steal Reagan’s slogan.
But the most Reagan-like candidate in the race is Ted Cruz.

Trump switching his party affiliation and imaging he's a great conservative leader is not unlike Bruce Jenner putting on a dress and imagining he's a beautiful woman.
In both cases, they managed to get a large buy-in, despite the myriad evidence to the contrary. Some people believe in fantasies.

Trump liked Reagan. Reagan told Trump he should run.
This was not a comparison to Reagan the man. it was merely a statement that he can turn out the vote as Reagan did.

Ronald Reagan was a 2-term Republican governor (’67-’75) of CA - became a Republican in 1962, he was divorced by his first wife because of his conservative activism, and he remained a Republican (for 42 years) until the day he died (2004).
And Ronald Reagan was a Republican activist for 20 years before being elected to his 1st presidential term.
To: don-o
Donald Trump says he will inspire more voters to turn out and vote Republican, like Ronald Reagan did decades ago. Polling evidence is that Trump is doing precisely that, appealing to many black American voters and winning back the Reagan Democrats, or most blue collar working Americans.
