U.S. Church Puts 5 Banks From Israel on a Blacklist [United Methodist]
NY Times ^ | JAN 12, 2016 | RICK GLADSTONE

The pension board of the United Methodist Church -- one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States, with more than seven million members -- has placed five Israeli banks on a list of companies that it will not invest in for human rights reasons, the board said in a statement on Tuesday.

It appeared to be the first time that a pension fund of a large American church had taken such a step regarding the Israeli banks, which help finance settlement construction in what most of the world considers illegally occupied Palestinian territories.

Wine being prepared for export at Shiloh Wineries, based in the West Bank settlement of Shiloh, this month.

Palestinian advocates, both in and outside the church, described the step as an important advance in the Boycott, Divest and Sanction campaign, or B.D.S., an international effort to pressure Israel economically over the Palestinian issue. Others within the church, however, called those claims misleading, noting that the church remains invested in other Israeli companies and that members had overwhelmingly opposed divestment resolutions.

The UMC: hatin’ on the Jews.

No wonder that denomination is shrinking.

The Palestinians are an excuse for anti Semites to act on their antiSemitism. It gives them cover so they can say they are just against those people in Israel who are oppressing those poor innocent arabs.

Exactly.

Look for a Southern Baptist church that is not a mega church and still has traditional services with a choir. You will be happy.

Hilary’s proclivities have no bearing on the actual beliefs of the UMC. I personally think she only worships herself...

What do you mean “Traditional services”? The services differ wildly between Lutheran, Methodist and Baptist

So sad how far the Methodist Church has declined. They no longer follow Christ.

The national leadership of the United Methodist Church has been very liberal for many years. This Methodist member keeps my donations at home to take care of our church.

Not a rock and roll service. Some Baptist Churches have two Sunday services. One with an old style traditional format where people actually dress for church and there is a choir. Typically an older crowd. The traditional is usually earlier and the other starts at 11pm (if they have two services).

The “contemporary” services do not have a choir but instead a band and most attendees wear shorts, flip-flops, and drink coffee drink service. They are a younger crowd with the requisite tattooed and ear pierced youth director.

Our pastor actually stated during one contemporary service that the attendees should seek out the old sect of the church and thank them because it is by their generosity and tithing that allows the two service format.

The pastor’s message is typically the same but he may change a few words here and there. The difference is mainly the crowd and the music.

I’m preaching at our UM church next month. I sent my sermon ideas to the pastor. (crickets, crickets).

“The national leadership of the United Methodist Church has been very liberal for many years. This Methodist member keeps my donations at home to take care of our church.”

If your Methodist church is part of the UMC, then it most likely sends an annual “apportionment” (or tax) payment to the district office which, in turn, sends money on to the national office. My small church pays its full apportionment, but I have often wondered what benefits we receive from the district and national offices other than the ability to join the insurance pool.

Trump is a Presbyterian

See: Presbyterians divest holdings to pressure Israel

That said, I support Trump or Cruz and my ideal ticket is Trump/Cruz. Something like half or more of the candidates are Roman Catholic. Cruz and Huckabee and Graham are Southern Baptists.

A lot of Methodists from very liberal sects find a permanent home in the Southern Baptist church.

Not all Presbyterians are alike. The difference between Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) is pretty radical. There are between 4 and 5 times as many members of PCUSA churches than PCA churches although PCA is growing rapidly while PCUSA is in decline. The Presbyterians divesting Israeli holdings are PCUSA. Here is a pretty concise summary of doctrinal differences.

https://biblebased.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/13-differences-between-the-pca-and-the-pcusa/

While Trump was baptized in a PCUSA church or may attend a PCUSA church, it certainly does not mean that his policies will necessarily reflect PCUSA policy. They don’t actually and the PCUSA has “complained” to him. See
