Does anyone think that if we only get taxes right, or immigration, or foreign policy, or healthcare, we'll be back on the right road? Important issues, to be sure, but singly or together don't address the real problem: a failing national vision...

And we ourselves are deeply troubled. Many particulars need fixing in America, but the thing we lack, the thing no political candidate currently seems to be able to give us, is a renewed and realistic sense of ourselves - something that has to be rooted in a truth deeper than economics and politics, in the "Creator" our Founders invoked and the condition of the American people. Without that spirit of confidence about the foundation, reforms won't mean much.

Haunting, but true.

Obama was our 1st “Anti American” President. Prior to him all Presidents had a vision of how to make the USA better. Obama was the 1st President who believed the problem was American was too great. In Obamas world, the USA was too powerful, to rich, to “oppressive”. Obama wanted to “re balance” the USA internally and on the world stage.

Trump has the seeds of what will heal the destructiveness of Obama’s regime in his campaign. Trump wants to “Make American Great again” Trump “wants us to win again”.

It still needs to be deiceed if Trump is the right standard bearer for that message, but he does HAVE the message we need.

Americans have a vision of what their country should be for their kids and their grand-kids. The Obama years are not it. Obama was an aberration, an experiment gone horrible wrong. And like other past mistakes in history, the USA will move on past him until his nothing more then an odd footnote in the history books.

America no longer has any shared values, other than a cultural antagonism towards our heritage and the elements that led to our former greatness. We’ve become the spiritual opposite of everything we once were.

Indeed, if this country were a human-being, I’d figure its only remedy would be a straight-jacket.

That ‘spirit of confidence’ does not exist without necessary trust in our fellow Americans.
Those who vote for the largess of the Treasury, do so at the expense of those who fill it.
Are the days of Earned Success gone with those who strive for Shared Success?

He posits an interesting view. And my view is that without a shared vision on some level, we’re just people who share the same tax collectors and passport. The days of “generally held American values” are likely over. Assaulted by the corporatist cronies, raped by the uniparty, and murdered by the death of the family.

All in all it’s not all that bad of a scenario. If you find your rewards in God and family, then what impossible sexual acts caesar is committing with himself is less relevant to your world. Are you of caesar or are you of God? If the answer is caesar, then your future is probably going to suck.

Good article. Thanks for posting it.

BHO isn’t the cause of what ills us but a symptom. Even if the next president gets the economy booming, the debt and spending to a more sustainable level, many of the underlying problems still exist

Dump state and local regulations against small building and manufacturing starts, and the malaise will eventually go away.

Thanks for posting! I thought the article was going in a different direction when I read, “Without a consensus on basic priorities”. As others have pointed out, it is our principles we have lost and the author is right to entreat us to find them before it’s too late.
