A couple weeks ago, I posted about a case in Kansas in which a couple was wrongly raided by a police tactical team. Robert and Addie Harte and their two children were held in their home by armed officers for over two hours as the officers searched the house for marijuana. They found no drugs. After spending $25,000 to get a judge to order the Johnson County Sheriffâs Department to turn over documents related to the search and investigation leading up to it, the Hartes discovered that Robert Harte, along with hundreds of other people, became a suspect when Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Wingo saw Harte, his son and his daughter emerge in August 2011 from a hydroponic gardening store and wrote down the Hartesâ license plate number.

And that's probable cause?
Yeah, we all know only potheads use hydroponic gardening systems. /facepalm
I’d much rather have the police hang outside of regular garden centers and pick up the illegal aliens coming out...
For cops who get to steal your property on the mere suspicion that it is linked to drugs, yes. This is one of the reasons I support teh decriminalization of drug laws.
Outrageous is why it was criminalized in the first place!
That is it, kids; NO ONE is choosing hydroponics for their science fair entry.
High Times was forced by a court order to require a company that sold hydroponic equipment via ads in their publication to either provide the DEA their mailing list or cease advertising: then High Times was required to provide THEIR mailing to the DEA.
Blessings your little heart.
What if these people had been growing heirloom tomatoes?
Everyone knows how violent those people are.
Better smash their doors down and send in a platoon in full battle gear.
Are you at the site you meant to admit your support of violent agriculture enforcement at, Stocksey?
Read much of this.
The treatment from all over that resulted in the raid and then whitewashed it, just screams “No God here.”
The bible told us about this long ago. The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. Foolishness ALL OVER! Kudos to the author for being methodical and holding the drama to a minimum; the folly is its own drama.
We need to welcome God back like we would welcome every superhero we knew from the cartoons of yesterday, except that He’s actually real, not just an idea.
There is excellent theological argument for this too, incidentally (one thing that might get pot heads to “come to church” again).
God said it in Eph chapter 6 and elsewhere. Our foes are demons. They aren’t anything else. No plant, not even a powder. They never seized anyone and made anyone do anything evil. Demons, however, have seized the minds of people and turned them to do evil things with those plants and powders. And no policeman can handcuff or jail a demon.
HOWEVER, GOD CAN!!
God is the superhero you want in the “war on drugs.” Which really needs to be a war on DEMONS.
You know, after reading this whole piece, I highly recommend that no one comment until after they have done so. The LE misconduct is so more egregious than even the headline implies.
I would point this article out to the leftists running the Post and and all the other lefties that say we would have a police state if we collect and deport illegal aliens. Frankly, that sounds considerably more benign than this kind of Gestapo-like behavior.
As an aside, I would like to know why (even incompetent) LE resources are directed at pot when we have hundreds of thousands of violent illegal aliens committing serious crimes including rape and murder.
This whole “police state” sh1t is directed exclusively at American citizens. WTF?
Because that's hard and involves real police work instead of sitting in a parking lot writing down license plates while eating donuts, then dressing up in your SWAT outfit to play soldier.
Well, looking into it is not the issue.
For quite a few years now, new officers ARE REQUIRED to know what WEED looks like, and especially what it SMELLS like. There is no way the “tea leaves” would have looked or smelled like WEED.
This was a witch hunt .. and the family needs to be talking to the Sheriff/Police Chief re training his Deputies/Officers on what WEED looks like, and what it smells like.
YES I read the whole article, and EVERY LAST PERSON Involved belongs in PRISON FOR LIFE, but I don’t think that goes far enough, A Guilty Verdict and a Mass PUBLIC HANGING would go a long ways to curb the excesses of Jack Booted Thugs like this.
And WHY exactly am I supposed to TRUST THE COPS????????
Yeah. The police need to do armed SWAT raids on everyone suspected of growing something that cannot be clearly sighted and identified by passing police cars. Then we will we be able to enjoy true liberty. The war on drugs was never done for your safety.
Sad what it’s come to on THIS board, eh?
Hell, I use the hydroponics store just up the road to refill my kegorator CO2 tank; guess I should be ready for the SWAT team next?
Yes, you should.
