Here are some phrases President Barack Obama uttered in a speech at the White House last week: âgun violence,â âgun rights,â âgun possession,â âgun safety,â âgun laws.â
Here is a term he did not use: âgun control.â
This isnât surprising. Advocates for tougher gun laws have for years edged away from âgun controlâ as a way of referring to gun regulations. The word âcontrolâ suggests government overreach, the opposite of what they want to evoke.
âHow you label things has consequences,â said Robert Spitzer, the chair of the political-science department at SUNY Cortland, and the author of five books about gun policy. âIt is important. We know rhetoric matters. Itâs a reinforcing effect, I think, to a great degree.â

Uh, no. You're losing because a) the American people see government and its schemes (rape-fugees) as a threat, and b) the American people want to be armed to meet these threats. When I have little old church ladies coming to me for advice on holsters and ammo for their concealed-carry pieces, you KNOW the gun-grabbers have lost.
i’ve recently come across some states showing gun ownership per capita by state.
it shocked me to see the average around 12 guns per 1000 people.
that just seems VERY low

—must have been referring to NFA-type stuff—real “machine guns”, suppressors, etc.,—
It’s OK the left has morphed the words for their agenda. The folks who cringe when more regulation of gun ownership is proposed recognize the writing on the wall. The folks who want to take our guns away recognize it as well.
Let ‘em spew their anti gun venom, it costs them elections. That’s why the Won kept quiet on it until after his second election.
Considering that a lot of states do not register guns, or only register handguns, these numbers are borderline meaningless.
"In June, a study on Gun ownership and social gun culture from Columbia University found a strong correlation between the percent of people who own firearms and the rate of gun deaths."
One could read that as "a strong correlation between the percent of people who have to register their firearms because of the anti-gun government policies and the rate of gun deaths". That is: anti-gun policies kill.
Those numbers do seem low. For example, Alabama supposedly has 20 guns per thousand but it also says the percentage of people in Alabama who own a gun is 48.9%.
“Gun Control” is just like “Global Warming” - the Left created it. They popularized it. They institutionalized it as key language in the debate. They own it.
So long as gun rights advocates keep using it, the Left can’t make it go away.
Of course they don't want to EVOKE a vision of domineering control. But that's exactly what they want to INSTITUTE.
So, in typical liberal fashion, they just look for a prettier label to paste on the poison.
It's less about guns and more about CONTROL.
We need common sense statist control.
It vastly underestimates the number of privately held firearms. Taking a look at the underlying source data, I think it may only be taking into account firearms registered under the NFA, which is, of course, absurd.
You are correct. The ignorant antigunner who wrote that piece was citing NFA Firearms figures (full autos, SBRs and SBSs) as if they were totals for all guns.
The clueless Lefty was citing NFA Registered Firearm (full autos, SBRs and SBS)figures as if they represented all legal guns.
The vast majority of guns are not registered as only a few states require registration of any guns at all.
Correlations work in two different ways: in a positive manner (i.e., more of something “x” means more of something “y”), or in a negative way (more of something “a” means LESS of something “b”).
A distinction which is not made by the Current Occupant, who freely quotes statistics, but is careful not to say what the particular correlation might be.
And sometimes, correlation is not tied to causation, but is purely coincidental.
They think that if they don’t calli ti gun control, people won’t know it’s gun control.
Never forget that the government wants to disarm you to make you do things you wouldn’t if you were armed.
it shocked me to see the average around 12 guns per 1000 people.

I have far more than that even after several boat losses. BTW, the American public didn't buy those millions of guns just to have some political hack tell them when, where or how to use them.
When I was in high school and first started playing in bands we found ourselves in the habit of changing the name of our band every time we flopped. I guess it seemed easier than to change (improve) our music.
That’s what leftists do - every time they fail they just change the words instead of their failed ideas.
