Having people write out their opinions and using aggregated data, as opposed to random data, is worthless.
If it's so worthless I wonder why pollsters bother to do that.

You can not make inferences using aggregated data. All of my polls were within the margin of error which is the best that we can do. I much prefer working in biostats and accelerated testing than polling.
Ah yes, "margin of error." Sometimes the local T.V. "reader" would even quote the margin of error.

Google
Accelerated life testing is the process of testing a product by subjecting it to conditions (stress, strain, temperatures, voltage, vibration rate, pressure etc.) in excess of its normal service parameters in an effort to uncover faults and potential modes of failure in a short amount of time. By analyzing the product's response to such tests, engineers can make predictions about the service life and maintenance intervals of a product.

Biostatistics (or biometry) is the application of statistics to a wide range of topics in biology. The science of biostatistics encompasses the design of biological experiments, especially in medicine, pharmacy, agriculture and fishery; the collection, summarization, and analysis of data from those experiments; and the interpretation of, and inference from, the results. A major branch of this is medical biostatistics, which is exclusively concerned with medicine and health.

Duh.
But thanks for the big words. I hadn't stretched my old brain in some time. :o)
It all major guessing based on the obvious. But, then, that's only my opinon.
Math is exact; health isn't, well, beyond "dead" and "living."
Happy new year, Dtm.

I think many democrat voters are not as left wing as their elected leaders are now. Look at the strategy they used to take the House on 2006. They ran as blue dog moderates but turned radical when they got in. Carter got elected by running as a moderate and fooling everybody about how radical he really was until he got into office. Reagan democrats were the people who Carter fooled. I suspect people like that are still around.

Exports accounted for _______ of GDP in 1935?

You're kidding, right?

Smoot Hawley was debated in congress throughout the late summer and early fall of 1929.

When a protectionist coalition of Republicans and Democrats gained strength in Congress the markets became uneasy and one of the results was the market crash.

Smoot Hawley became law on June 17 1930.

So you can’t answer a simple question. Figures. YOU HAVE NO CREDIBILITY.

Respectfully, your question is immaterial.

You asked about exports in 1935, and then asked me to explain their significance in causing a Depression in 1930.

If you are having trouble understanding why this makes no sense, I'm sorry to tell you that I don't think I can help you.

For anyone following this thread, presido refuses to answer a simple question. The answer is <4% of the US economy(GDP) was based on exports in 1935. This is relevant because Smoot Hawley legislation put limits on exports. Even if ALL of the import-export business was removed from the economy in 1935, a <4% loss in GDP is not going to either cause a depression or make one worse.

Smoot Hawley is red herring to distract from the real issues of offshoring and unfair trade practices.

My apologies, as I had no idea that you were Doctor Emmett Brown. Clearly if one is in possession of a flux capacitor it is indeed possible for something that takes place in 1935 to have a causational effect in 1930. Please say hello to the McFly family if you run into them in your travels.

“I’m personally of the opinion that if we don’t do something drastic about the illegal immigration problem soon, then conservatives can permanently kiss goodbye...”

I agree with most of what you’re saying and I do like Trump’s brashness and ability to get many of our concerns out into the light, but what concerns me is if Trump changes back to his previous liberal position from 2012-2013 and he is the next president to appoint judges. We can’t afford to be fooled this time.

If he appoints 2-3 more Sotamayors then our country will be ruined with or without the wall. The wall is a partial fix to a much larger problem and a liberal SCOTUS, which will last much longer than the wall, can undermine any hope of getting immigration under control.

I do trust Cruz to appoint conservatives, but I don’t trust Trump to. After all, Trump has previously praised Oprah, Obama, and even the NK leader.

“I suspect people like that are still around.”

I hope you’re right, but it seems most of the blue dogs were already thrown out of the party and became independents. Those that remained supported the dems and their policies. I guess we will see. Again, I hope you’re right because the alternative is that half of our country are takers and traitors still siding with the democrats.

I highly doubt Trump would ever pick a Sotomayor—although perhaps an Anthony Kennedy wouldn’t be out of the question (but he’s, of course, not nearly as bad overall). At least he praised Clarence Thomas as his favorite justice.

I don’t think judicial issues are his wheelhouse. I think he will most likely be lead by his advisors on judicial appointments. Currently, he seems to have campaign workers with good conservative credentials. His campaign manager was strongly associated with the Tea Party, for example. Hopefully, too, lessons were learned from the Harriet Meyers fiasco. Presidents have to listen to their supporters and fellow party members too.

I hope you’re right, but doubting is much different than knowing. Trump supported Obama at one time, still supports Oprah, and envies Kim Jong-Un. Even if he picked a Kennedy, the president will get up to 3 picks during the next 4 years, and 3 Kennedy’s could permanently turn SCOTUS left.

I agree that judicial issues are not Trump’s wheelhouse, but Trump has to humble himself enough to listen to conservatives and I don’t have confidence that Trump will listen to anyone but Trump based on his past.

Trump is certainly more likely to select moderate to left leaning justices than Cruz is and either way, we can’t afford to take the gamble that Trump may or may not select kinda liberal to very liberal justices. At that point, no wall or reduction in immigration will save us as a country.

Wow I am impressed, I wish my students would be like you. I always have a red ink pen with me. Every time I do not know a word I write it down in red ink. I will not read any further until I know the definition of the word.

A lot of pollsters only care about the money, and will prostitute themselves for the money. Since doing a poll the correct way is expensive and hard, they cheat. There is a lot of money in polling. Gallup is a rich man.

For me polling is boring and labor intensive. I am not a biologist and Bio-stats is so interesting. I often have to spend more time understanding the biology to figure what mathematics will solve their problem. Also in biometry the mathematics can get really nasty, which makes it so much more fun. Also Accelerated testing and bio-mathematics are some what virgin fields which means there are a lot of good problems to be solved.

Keep stretching your brain, it will irritate the people who don't like you.

I bet that you are an outstanding instructor. You are most lucid and a pleasure to read.

Keep stretching your brain, it will irritate the people who don't like you.
What else is new?
The SMART and wise folks who don't like me just stop baiting me. One gentleman said that we should probably stop communicating as we were not ever going to "meet minds."

But, really, WHY on earth would anyone with a brain and/or a life bother to dislike me? We are all strangers on this most impersonal web site who are simply passing the hours reading and typing about a giant potpourri of subjects and information. It's TOTALLY harmless.

Some people dislike anyone who disagrees with them. They are closed minded and not willing to debate. You could never make me mad even if I don't agree with you. I never understand how people get mad when they find out they are wrong, I love it when I find out that I am wrong, how else can you grow and improve.

Trump would have NO authority to make Mexico to do anything. What Trump said is a LIE,

Is IT !!

How much direct aid does the U.S. give to Mexico? The president has the ability to decide how much money they get.

Cut it off and use it to build the wall.

Yes it is a LIE. In case you forgot, Congress holds the purse strings, not the President, so Trump would have little to no authority to force Mexico to do anything. He would be dependent on Congress. So although Trump may “intend” to do it, he will not have that authority.

Also, for those of you that do not understand finances. If the U.S. withholds aid money for Mexico and uses that money instead to build a wall then the U.S. is still using its own money to build the wall. Likewise, if we give that aid money to Mexico and they use it to build the wall then the U.S. is still paying for the wall; not Mexico.

The only way to make Mexico pay for the wall would be for the U.S. to withhold aid AND Mexico pay for the wall. Anything else is nothing more than slide of hand and creative accounting.

Trump is a business man and should know this so to claim that we’ll make Mexico build the wall by spending our own money on the wall instead of giving Mexico aid is deceptive and misleading. Again, Trump’s claims may make a good sound bite, but they are nothing but LIES!

Then you are not a "victim" of that first and worst of the seven deadly sins: pride. Good for you. Your wife, children, relatives and co-workers must enjoy working with/for you. You must laugh/smile a lot, even if it's only on the inside. :o) Happy 2016

I am unfortunately only smart enough to know how dumb I am. I am humbled by GOD’s universe, and praise my maker that he gave me a sense of humor. Pride is for fools.
