US admits Bashar al-Assad will outlast Barack Obama

The US government privately accepts that Bashar Assad will still be in power when Barack Obama leaves the White House, according to a leaked internal document.

A timeline prepared for American officials and obtained by the Associated Press offers March 2017 as the earliest possible date for Mr Assad to give up his position as president and for his inner circle to leave. That would be more than five years after Mr Obama first called for the Syrian president to quit, and two months after the American president steps down.

The State Department said on Wednesday the timeline was prepared late last year as a guide for John Kerry, Secretary of State, and other American diplomats as they worked on a political transition for Syria.

Given a choice between Assad and the Saudis, I will take Assad any time. He may be the only sane person left in a Muslim country. The only difference between ISIS and the Saudis is that the Saudis have a king.

And just think.

Unlike Bush '41 with Saddam Hussein, who had his son, Bush '43, to start another Gulf War to finish the job, who is Obama's most likely Dem successor?

Li'l ol' "Benghazi" Hil.

And if she has a major stroke, or falls down several flights of stairs drunk, or Obama decides to be vengeful over Bill's "this guy would've been serving us coffee" remark and indicts her over the email --

why, we get Bernie "Crazy Coot" Sanders.

Just the kind to strike panic into the hearts of jihadists everywhere.

I think Hillary actually would frighten ISIS. I think she would slaughter any of her tools to prevent them from saying too much. That is probably why Ambassador Stevens was executed. Also, in her mind, it would make her look tough. She would kill more in one term that all of the presidents since Bush 1. And you could take it to the bank she would do something to make Ruby Ridge and Waco look like weekend day trips.

Not quite. You're forgetting King Abdullah of Jordan, who like his father, the late King Hussein II, is a temperate man. He also is no fan of ISIS, and those who support them...

Abdullah may be moderate, but remember that he is of the Hashemite family — descendents of the Prophet Mohammad, so he is technically in line for the Caliphate as well.

Now, why would the Obama administration believe that Assad and his inner circle might step down later in 2017? The “Free Syrian Army” is not likely to push the Russians out before then (if ever). It just makes me wonder what sort of treachery is afoot.
