The odds get no worse. They stay exactly the same. Rotten. 1 in about 300,000,000. Which of course means 299,999,999/300,000,000 you will not win.

Somebody’s going to win, though, so hope springs eternal. I’ve been known to give in and buy one from time to time. So long as it’s pocket change to you, there’s no harm done in my opinion. There are far worse things you could be blowing money on, and it’s nice to dream.

The odds don't get worse, but the odds of winning the jackpot do. The more tickets sold, the greater the odds of a shared jackpot.

There was a story in New York some years ago about someone winning a $20M jackpot in a Pick-6 drawing. I believe that was the largest jackpot in New York history at the time. The following week, there was a new jackpot of several million dollars that got split so many ways that each winner got less than $10,000. The winning numbers were a sequence like 5-10-15-20-25-30 or something like that, and there were literally hundreds of people who played that exact same set of numbers.
