Donald Trump intensified his criticism of Ted Cruz at two Iowa campaign rallies on Saturday, urging voters to reject the Texas senator by saying his Canadian birth raises serious questions about his eligibility to become president.
"He was born in Canada. I guess his parents voted in Canada," Trump said at an afternoon rally in Clear Lake. "So if you were born in Canada, immediately it's a little bit of a problem."
Trump added: "You cannot put somebody there that's gonna go in ... he's going to be immediately sued."
Earlier Saturday, Trump said at a rally in Ottumwa that Cruz "has to straighten out his problems," a veiled reference to the so-called "birther" issue. But he declined to elaborate further, saying, "We'll discuss that later."
Cruz, however, is a naturally-born U.S. citizen, and most legal experts agree that he is qualified to be commander-in-chief.
But recently, he has had to aggressively push back on questions pushed from Trump about his eligibility for the presidency. He renounced his dual Canadian citizenship in 2014, and on Friday, Cruz's campaign shared with the conservative website Breitbart a copy of his mother's birth certificate showing her born in the United States.
Trump is trying to help Rafael. Ted should just go to court and get a declaratory judgment and put the questions behind him. It’s the only thing I have heard about Cruz in the news for a week now. At this rate it will continue for weeks. Just let the courts settle it. The sooner the better. Ted should send Mr. Trump a thank you note.
And Levin is always 1 inch from leaving the GOP. He never leaves,
but he is always 1 inch from leaving.
Cruz has had his eligibility to be on the primary ballot in NH, VT, FL, and MD challenged. NH has ruled in his favor so far.
Trump knows he's eligible. He's just trying to sway voters in Iowa then elsewhere as a means of taking those states. SCOTUS needs to hold an emergency session, SOON. Get it over with now.
Dewhurst lost a lot more support than he gained with his attacks.
So, someone could sue Trump because his mother was born in Scotland.
Trump really is a buffoon at times
This latest Trump escalation shows that he is in panic mode...he sees the movement toward Cruz, so he attacks, unprovoked. No biggie, it’s a losing argument! Plus, I expect Cruz to engage the Donald during the upcoming debate and finally show him for what he truly is...a totally arrogant, insecure blowhard and an empty suit in terms his experience to be President. Sissy is probably an accurate word for Trump!
Trump is saying Cruz gets judgement ASAP.
Excellent suggestion from Trump.
I’m not going to get into this back and forth.
I have tried to stay out of the bickering.
If he was a natural born American citizen, how was he born into Canadian citizenship?
Trump is scared. Good. Love the guy but Cruz is smarter than he and Hillary put together.
“No, it does not. Naturalization is what happens AFTER birth, and Ted was born a US citizen. Therefor, he is not a naturalized citizen, which leaves...”
Not according to the U.S. Code:
U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs Manual Volume 7
Consular Affairs. 7 FAM 1150 ACQUISITION OF U.S. CITIZENSHIP BY NATURALIZATION.
b. 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(23); INA 101(a)(23)) defines naturalization as âthe conferring of nationality of a state upon a person after birth by any means whatsoever.â For the purposes of this subchapter naturalization includes:...
(5) âAutomaticâ acquisition of U.S. citizenship after birth, a form of naturalization by certain children born abroad to U.S. citizen parents or children adopted abroad by U.S. citizen parents.
I think that Trump is laying the ground work for Cruz to be his VP.
If Trump wasn’t in it, Cruz would be second to JEB!, maybe third behind Rubio. Both those Bozo’s are the Republican Party’s darlings.
It would be Cruz against the Republican Party and he wouldn’t have the traction to fight them like Trump does.
I don’t suffer from CDS or DTS, since either Cruz or Trump would be fine with me. Cruz is currently my first choice, so we’ll see what happens when the rubber meets the road.
This is actually genius on his part.
TDS, oops...
Oh yeah!
Grayson’s lawsuit against Cruz is a stalking horse for the DNC, though. It needs settled, even if it’s thrown out.
