U.S. cities that implemented big minimum-wage hikes to $10 an hour or more in 2015 have seen a strikingly similar aftermath: Job gains have fallen to multiyear lows at restaurants, hotels and other leisure and hospitality venues.
The data aren't, for the most part, stark and reliable enough to amount to smoking-gun proof.
But Chicago, Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. â all on the leading edge of the push for big minimum wage hikes â all show worrisome job trends.

the welfare state will take care of the unemployed. It's all good to libtards
Wow, who’da thunk.
............can the government not be required to guarantee a minimum profit?
Oakland, Ca.’ s main book store is closing and the new minimum wage is a prime reason.

Hello robots - good bye tipping.
Eat out side of city limits
No where in the article is it implied that the increase in min wage is causing any product price increases. It is only effecting employment. Less workers mean that they are being more productive. A good thing.
Lib solution - we must force businesses to hire people, and we must force them not to fire people.
Fascism. It’s for socialists who rule privafe businesses by regulations, but when economic shtf, can still have private sector scapegoats to blame.
Fascism is just a delphi technique to get more socialism in the door.

NYC or SamFranFrisco, $10 might get you a cup of coffee and a donut, or small roll.
The hell, you say!
Dimes, nickels, and quarters were all you need to eat there.
Same thing happened at fast food chains in my area; they used to be packed, now not so much. Some have added extra drive-thru lanes (to order; they still feed to the same window), just in time to watch the demand slow to a trickle.
These laws will probably cost the last unskilled white Americans their jobs as well; the chains seemed to already have a preference for Latinos, and smaller places (those that don’t already do so) will just all start paying cash.
Govt can’t balance a budget, let alone reduce the deficit. What makes you think it cares one whit about making a PROFIT.

Next you know, you’ll be concerned about govt and customer service!

or..... Chicago, Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. are all cities with severe economic problems resulting in failing economies and fleeing businesses .
the utopian wage increases exacerbated the existing problems
I guess the implication is, if you are a minimum wage earner, and if you have any brains, you will leave NYC for Alabama.
Who tips at McDonald's?
You guessed incorrectly but I like your answer anyway.
I visited NYC once, just to see why they called it the "Big Apple." It's an amazing place and they have everything. I was busy from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M., saw a Broadway show every night, went everywhere and LOVED the cruises on the many, many waterways. I even got a photo of myself on a day-lunch cruise.
However, I don't care for the weather and there are just too many dang people there.
One thing that I liked: they had many, many, many, many Christian and Catholic Churches. There was a church JUST ABOUT around every corner. I hadn't expected that.
So, I didn't miss my daily Mass even once. There were services all day long...just around the corner.
Oh, I almost forgot: if I wanted a Catholic Church in another language, you name it, it was there too.
I took a "bite" of the Big Apple and now understand what all the hullabaloo is all about.
I don't know Alabama. I had STARTED to visit every state in the union but illness (not mine) and death entered my life and took all the steam out of me. I may want to travel again some day but...not for now.
Waiters live on tips and got a low minimum before.
