Worrying results were found in a poll published on Friday, which revealed that no fewer than 72% of Israelis say the country suffers from widespread corruption.
A full 16.9% of respondents said Israel is a very corrupt country, while 55.7% classified it as rather corrupt, in a poll conducted for Channel 2 on Thursday and published the following day. ...

I used to work there
The mordida was about like France or Spain
Not third world but much worse than average whitebread US local stuff
Corruption and bribes have been scant in my half century business career in the south except in black areas and Southern Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf coast and Miami
My dad always said Cook county Ilinois was worst he ever dealt with
I got a zoning waiver once in Nashville and bought the codes honcho a nice gift as thanks
He sent me a check for it
But quid pro quo is pretty common in other places
The Bible refers to this over and over again. Rigged scales for measuring, corrupt judges, kings taking advantage of their subjects, etc., etc.
I can kinda understand why Americans might be surprised, but why would Israelis be surprised that most Israelis are aware of corruption?
It's meaningless without some kind of specification of what corruption is. IOW, the poll itself is corrupt. :') Thanks Olog-hai.
Israel is a socialist society. Socialism is designed for corruption. The government has power over everything so it is natural in socialism that government employees who actually administer things accept bribes for favorable administration. I worked for an Israeli company. In discussing Israel’s supposedly fabulous free health care with my coworkers they would add the caveat, of course if you want it faster or better, you slip the right person a few shekels.
Yeah. Is it auto-grease time if you get pulled over or have dealings with cops? Can you generally send things through the post?

I've been pulled over a few times since I started driving (I've been driving since the mid-1970s, and boy are my arms tired); two speeding tickets, hmm, three but the third one was a check this box to get out of it thing; two r&r; and about five "you're driving without your lights on". So, no.
Were you driving in Israel? I guess some places you just get out the bribe/ticket avoidance money automatically. That’s what I think of when I think ‘corrupt.’ That and getting your mail opened and stolen.

Nah.
If you’ve read John Locke’s “Second Treatise on Government” then you realize that all government is organized crime. The more (bigger) government the worse it is.
Go to any country and the majority of the people think the government is corrupt....usually they are correct!!!
Yes, I agree with you. And there are some cities and districts which have a particular reputation that way - like Marseilles in France, and Sydney in Australia. That’s how it is.
