WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The man who shot a policeman in Philadelphia and claimed to have pledged allegiance to Islamic State militants does not appear to be a mosque-going Muslim, a senior official at the largest U.S. Muslim advocacy group said.
"At this hour, it does not appear that he was an observant or mosque-going Muslim" in the local community, said Jacob Bender, executive director of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
"I've called numerous imams and mosques to try to see if the name rings a bell with anyone. So far it hasn't," he told Reuters in an interview.

he’s wearing one of those pajama dresses. He’s a lot more observant of a Muslim than I am.
It is clear he isn’t an observant Muslim, he attacked someone who could fight back. Something that requires at least a small degree of courage. If he had been observant, the victim in this case would have been a woman or child.
Well this is a novel spin on the “you can only be a minority if you hold the right views” position that Libs take. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio really aren’t Latino because they are conservative. Ben Carson and Herman Cain really aren’t black because they are conservative. Margaret Thatcher really wasn’t a woman because she was conservative. Now this murderer really isn’t a Muslim because he’s a murderer and that wouldn’t fit in with the narrative about oppressed, backlash-fearing Muslims.
