Online dating behemoth OkCupid is adding a feature tailor-made for polyamorous people. The new setting, which became available for some beta users in December, allows users who are listed as âseeing someone,â âmarried,â or âin an open relationshipâ on the platform to link their profiles and search for other people to join their relationship. It will be rolled out to all users on Friday.
A screenshot of the new feature obtained by The Atlantic shows a stock photo of a sample user listed as âin an open relationshipâ with another, whose profile is linked below his.

Sorry, I ain’t datin’ no one named “Chlamydia”.
That isn’t polygamy-it is totally transient and without commitment-and it is nothing new...
It looks just like the personal ads you saw in the 70’s and 80’s in the “underground” papers from Cali-and one or two from Austin-they were ads for couples who were into open marriage or “swinging” to meet other swingers for threesomes, foursomes and moresomes-my husband and I used to be amused by those ads-very creative...
It was around when I was a kid, too, by still another name, especially in isolated places like small military bases in BFE, and remote ranching communities-I lived in both as a kid. I became a skillful eavesdropper at a young age, and I heard my mom and other adults-mostly women-gossiping about “wife swapping” and “key parties” in hushed voices when they did not think little ears were tuned in-”polyamory” is just the newest name for openly screwing around...
In the remote area I live in now, that is still called either “swapping” or more graphically “laying up with one another’s wives”-no website required...
This is my rifle, this is my gun.....
Well said! I’ve also seen it this way:
Polygamy is usually practiced by straight, heterosexual religious families that are committed to each other and their children. Liberals hate it.
Polyamory is usually practiced by secular/pagan individuals who are not committed to each other and the children they might have. Liberals endorse it.
Indeed-neither one makes any sense to me-polygamy did in the far past-after wars had decimated the male population -or some plague, volcanic eruption, tsunami, etc-like the original Mormons modeled their polygamy after the Jewish patriarchs in the Bible, etc.
Polyandry doesn’t seem to have served any purpose at all anywhere in history, other than to be an excuse for f’ing around without risking having a spouse engineer your death, or demand a divorce and well-deserved settlement...
My husband and I knew several other military couples who were swingers, but we declined their invitations to participate-we were polite about it, just saying we were okay with the traditional way, and really weren’t into anything like that. All but one of those couples ended up divorcing sooner rather than later because a spouse and one of their swinging partners decided they were in love and wanted to be each other’s only sexual partner, so it didn’t work out that well for all concerned.
When I was a comp case manager, I had a few clients who were involved in swinging with their spouses-they never seemed happy with the choice, no matter whether the swinging was their idea or their spouse’s, or whether they were male or female. That proved to me that swinging was a bad idea-I haven’t changed my mind...
I forgot to mention-around 8 years ago-one evening, a couple of roads away from where I am, a couple-both LEO’s-had a wife swap party with some other county and state LEO’s-both male and female. It turned into an orgy, a fight between spouses and lovers broke out-there was enough alcohol-fueled shouting and violence that a neighbor several acres away called the sheriff.
With that many LEOs answering a call for what was practically a riot involving their own, nobody who answered that call could be shut up, and the headlines of sex party of LEOs turns violent, etc-made the national news-took months to for it to die down, even after the firing of those who participated in the party...
“I hate you.”
I assume you meant that in a good way. :-)
Always!

Polygamy is ne wife too many. Monogamy is the same thing...
