Trump to scrap UK investments if barred from Britain

Donald Trump will scrap $1 billion of planned investments in Britain if he is banned from entering the country, a spokesman for the US politician's business empire said on Wednesday.

British lawmakers are expected to debate whether the Republican presidential candidate should be barred from Britain for an alleged "hate speech", a move the Trump Organization said would set a "dangerous precedent".

The organisation said the US tycoon had planned to invest a total of £700 million pounds (950 million euros, $1 billion) in two golf courses he owns in Scotland.

"Any action to restrict travel would force The Trump Organization to immediately end these and all future investments we are currently contemplating in the United Kingdom," spokesman George Sorial said in a statement.

"Westminster would create a dangerous precedent and send a terrible message to the world that the United Kingdom opposes free speech and has no interest in attracting inward investment."

Parliament is due to debate whether Trump should be banned on January 18, after an online petition calling for him to be barred gathered more than 570,000 signatures.

Lawmakers are obliged to consider for debate any official petition that reaches 100,000 signatures, but no decision is taken at the end of the session.

The petition accused Trump of hate speech after his call last month for Muslims to be temporarily denied entry to the United States, following a mass shooting in California by a Muslim couple said to have been radicalised.

He has also in recent months labelled Mexican immigrants rapists and mocked a disabled reporter by mimicking him.

Prime Minister David Cameron has condemned Trump's remarks on Muslims as "divisive, stupid and wrong" but does not support banning him. (snip)

I don’t make things up,Vinnie.

Not even when I was in the third grade.

You sure????? You really sound like a 3rd grader that makes things up-— well, that’s ok, maybe you just can’t help it.

.....”It appears quite clear that trump intends to co-mingle his private business with his public position”....

Imagine the enemies he’s going to make that he hasn’t already....using his business empire as political leverage ...who’d da thought!

You made a statement in your lead post, that had no basis in fact or reality.

You just made it up.

Why can’t you just admit that?

Heck we don't need to worry about Obama's creating distrust among our allies....looks like Trumps got a good start of doing likewise... Both seem to be tearing this country apart here and on the International Scene!

Does Trump have a clue what he's doing trying to throw his weight around as if he's in charge here. They've said Trump will blow his own campaign... looks like that could well be forthcoming at the rate he's going. This Primary is truly going to his head...

“It appears quite clear that trump intends to co-mingle his private business with his public position. “

That statement? What’s the problem with it.

"Donald Trump controlled by Wall Street and Big Business-"

Senator Ted Cruz was getting his health insurance from Goldman Sachs. You can't get more Wall Street than that. You might want to watch where you throw stones.

Deranged? I posted an article- then posted direct quotes from Trump’s org. transcribed in the article. What’s the problem with that?

What is Trump’s “public position”?

He is a private citizen and a candidate in a political campaign. He has no public “position”.

Yes. But, just generally, have you noticed how many of them say “you lie” or “you make things up”? I mean you can take a DIRECT QUOTE from an article, black and white, but to them, it’s still a fabrication if it doesn’t say what they want to hear!

Really, it’s disconcerting- like a Trump psychosis or something.

I have noticed that. I’ve personally seen them deny text that’s put before them in black and white. Now who else does that? Liberals. Well, and drunks on “Cops”, lol.

They were doing it on the Cruz “ethanol flip” threads earlier this evening. Didn’t matter how much proof they received that Cruz’s stance was unchanged, they kept yelling “Flip-flopper!”

Totally divorced from reality.

It’s not the articles you post, it’s your nonsensical commentary.

What is Trump’s “public position”?

**************

According to the article, his organization indicates that Trump is an official candidate running for President, and in fact, the front runner.

“This would also alienate the many millions of United States citizens who wholeheartedly support Mr. Trump and have made him the front runner by far in the 2016 Presidential Election.”

Clearly, he’s indicated that he represents the views of many millions of Americans who wholeheartedly support him... millions of Americans who have no connection to his private business affairs; they’re not his shareholders, partners, or business associates — they are the general public.

Now certainly, he did not mention that fact as a pleasantry, or an innocuous aside— he used it as evidence of his public support within the American public to fortify his argument concerning a private grievance.

Is that not mixing public and private?

That’s really subjective-— there’s an equal possibility that you merely lack the sense to comprehend my commentary.

It is immaterial.

Trump holds no public position—he has not been elected to anything yet.

Has Trump done anything improper here?

Never said he did. What I said was, “it appears quite clear that trump intends to co-mingle his private business with his public position.”

Which is precisely what he did here.
