Professional Pandering -- Desperate Cruz, Dependent on Iowa, Flip-Flops on Ethanol Subsidies...

Posted on January 6, 2016 by sundance

In what can only be noted as "typically Cruzian" the Senator who sponsored the "Renewable Fuel Standard Repeal Act", which would have immediately repealed the ethanol mandate, has now reversed course and claims to support continued Iowa Corn Subsidies.

The pandering flip-flop becomes "brutally Cruzian" when the campaign for Ted Cruz denies the current change in position by pointing to a prior change in position; saying, in effect: when Senator Ted Cruz decided to run for President he changed his position, and in 2014 supported a five year phase out of the Renewable Fuel Standard.

So candidate Cruz was against Iowa corn subsidy, 2013; then became for Iowa corn subsidy (with phase out), 2014, and now advocates on behalf of corn subsidy in 2016.

Just like Senator Cruz’s advocacy for the Corker/Cardin amendment (Iran Deal); and just like Senator Cruz’s advocacy for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) within the Trans-Pacific Trade Deal; Ted Cruz is for them, until he becomes against them – only when the consideration of "them" is determined by the general approval of the electorate.

Got it.

"Cruzian" and "Clintonian" are now virtually synonymous.

[...] Farmers and rural communities across Iowa are going to be encouraged by Sen. Cruz's remarks. He is clearly listening to the people of Iowa and understands the importance of the Renewable Fuel Standard to America’s economy and energy independence, as he started the caucus process calling for immediate repeal.

While not perfect, this is a big step forward by Sen. Cruz. (Iowa Corn Lobby)

Interesting group of names. I’m quite sure none of them would like to be reminded of it in light of their current devotions. Doesn’t fit their ‘I’m a conservative’ BS.

I guess they ‘evolved’ when principle was to big a cross to bear.

This is exactly what Cruz proposed in legislation in 2014. His position has not changed AT ALL.

Cruz sponsored legislation in 2014 for the 5 year phase out of ethanol subsidies and mandates. He has changed nothing. No responsible person would cause the collapse of an entire industry without a transitional phase out.

The person who reported this story has retracted and corrected it, BTW.

There it is, right in front of God and everybody, over a year ago in the Des Moines Register. Doesn't look to me like anything has changed at all.

I heard a lot of people complaining about having another debate. They say they know everything by now. Appears they don't.

Then he better get someone to write his web site better cause he says ELIMINATE it. There's no mention of 5 years.....

What else is he hiding about his plan as he has it written on his web site?

I go there and have not seen what you describe.

Sundance has made it fairly clear he doesn’t like Cruz flip flopping on votes i.e. Obamatrade and visas, and his slippery talking points trying to squirm out of the facts.

I guess we all have our reasons.

Is this why the Ethanol lobby is following the Cruz campaign around Iowa with protesting at every event? I saw it myself. The ethanol groups detest Cruz.

Like I said, no responsible person would collapse an entire industry without some transitional phase out. HIs 2014 legislation speaks for itself.

Pardon me, but I think that you're being redundant. ;)

Isn't 'libel' a contraction of 'liberal'?

Yep, it’s a case where Cruz just doesn’t tell every audience the same thing, nor the whole story.

Yeah, let's wait until the economy collapses before doing anything meaningful. Gotta love politicians that put forth plans and budgets that go beyond their elected terms. Stoopid!

Yep, gotta keep your options open if you need to pander for the votes later.

And Cruz’s stance is perfectly Conservative, btw... But I bet you already knew that, eh?

Maybe FR could get Govt funding for housing so many of them during election season. At least a charity write-off.

Fair is fair.
