Professional Pandering -- Desperate Cruz, Dependent on Iowa, Flip-Flops on Ethanol Subsidies...
Posted on January 6, 2016 by sundance
In what can only be noted as "typically Cruzian" the Senator who sponsored the "Renewable Fuel Standard Repeal Act", which would have immediately repealed the ethanol mandate, has now reversed course and claims to support continued Iowa Corn Subsidies.
The pandering flip-flop becomes "brutally Cruzian" when the campaign for Ted Cruz denies the current change in position by pointing to a prior change in position; saying, in effect: when Senator Ted Cruz decided to run for President he changed his position, and in 2014 supported a five year phase out of the Renewable Fuel Standard.
So candidate Cruz was against Iowa corn subsidy, 2013; then became for Iowa corn subsidy (with phase out), 2014, and now advocates on behalf of corn subsidy in 2016.
Just like Senator Cruzâs advocacy for the Corker/Cardin amendment (Iran Deal); and just like Senator Cruzâs advocacy for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) within the Trans-Pacific Trade Deal; Ted Cruz is for them, until he becomes against them â only when the consideration of "them" is determined by the general approval of the electorate.
Got it.
"Cruzian" and "Clintonian" are now virtually synonymous.
[...] Farmers and rural communities across Iowa are going to be encouraged by Sen. Cruz's remarks. He is clearly listening to the people of Iowa and understands the importance of the Renewable Fuel Standard to Americaâs economy and energy independence, as he started the caucus process calling for immediate repeal.
While not perfect, this is a big step forward by Sen. Cruz. (Iowa Corn Lobby)

I agree. It is not well reasoned and reeks of hate.
I agree that it has the appearance of pandering, but it is the right answer. Farmers have been pushed by the government in this direction, so they should have time to change.
Also, any other products, methods, or quantities that would make ethanol more competitive should take precedence over any government mandate.
Silly season
The Cruz sycophants at gay Redstate or loony Rightscoop are still lying to their readers about Cruz's position on immigration. The Hot Air article I also provide here by a Ted Cruz supporter is pretty revealing that nothing has been "shot to hell," except by the usual suspects who wail and gnash their teeth constantly on anything that comes down the pike.
Blab away. It was shot to hell 5 min after it broke. Your Hero worship and CDS does not change that.
So just because they are ignorant doesn't mean flip flop. And breaking the blendwall would not be done with subsidies. If you don't need subsidies you should be allowed to negotiate the blendwall with manufacturers. Most of us will go for the cheaper (without subsidies) pure gas.
Which is already law, set to phase out in 2022. Look at what Cruz was telling CPAC and other conservative audiences, and how conservative commentators were reporting it: Cruz the "brave" one to call for immediate repeal of Ethanol.
Little did they know, Cruz wasn't telling them the whole story. Though what we can guarantee here is that: Cruz now wants to break the "blendwall" and has shifted positions on ethanol itself entirely, denying he was ever an opponent, despite words to the contrary before.
Going to be interesting to see if Cruz wins Iowa. The screaming here will be legendary.
All it does is damage conservatism and America to trash a genuine conservative but they obviously don’t care about that.
You’re good for personal budgeting. Your posts save a lot of people money on Ipicac.
I don’t take anything statists say to heart, soul or mind. Just to keep the record straight.
They can only act like a liberal for so long before they become liberals and a lot have made the transition without ever knowing it was happening.
Less than a year ago FR was near unanimous in support of citizens united and closed primaries. Now we hear endless raging about the Koch Bros and big donors and whining about voter disenfranchisement by wanting people voting in GOP primaries to be actual republicans.
Lying, slandering, name-calling, whining, caterwauling, misleading... all the usual tactics of the Trumpettes.
Less than a year ago Ted Cruz was the conservative savior of America and Trump was a clown.
My how times change. CANCERvatism at it’s finest.
Once again, GPH shows up with his shovel, straight from the waste pits behind the feedlot.
Yeah its kinda funny when you look at Trump threads from 2012 and 2008 you can see who has been solid conservatives and who has utterly collapsed.
That's exactly right.
From Jan 2015:
Cruz, though, opposes what he calls government intervention into the market for energy and has specifically proposed phasing out the RFS over five years. On Friday, he reiterated that position and said he'll maintain it regardless of the political cost in Iowa should he run for president. “I very strongly support corn and farmers and ethanol, but I don’t think Washington should pick winners and losers” Cruz said after a supporter asked him to clarify his stance. “I think what we need to do, instead of having a government mandated subsidy, we ought to do is remove the government barriers so that ethanol can end up having a larger share of the market through competition rather than through government putting mandates in place,” Cruz added.

There it is, right in front of God and everybody, over a year ago in the Des Moines Register. Doesn't look to me like anything has changed at all.
The reporter that erroneously reported this has corrected it.
The reporter has already retracted the story as false. See post 14 for link.
