SIOUX CENTER - During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.

Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.

Senator Cruz also expressed passionate support for breaking through the so-called "blendwall." That "blendwall" makes it illegal for ethanol to expand its market penetration, and I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanol…."

The comments were substantially repeated at another stop in Cherokee, Iowa the same evening. You can listen to audio of the remarks here. and below.

He will not. Levin has chosen his candidate. And that's his business.

Your statement is ironic.

Cruz did not flip yet you continue to state that he did, to the benefit of your chosen candidate.

Cruz said he would be willing to see federal taxpayers absorb a $7 billion hit to pay for building an 1,100-mile-long border wall from Brownsville to El Paso.

Wow. That's more wall than what Trump wants to build.

"Cruz did not flip yet you continue to state that he did, to the benefit of your chosen candidate. "

In now thread on this board have I ever accused Cruz of flip flopping.

Why would you say that?

All I find when searching are articles where Cruz has said the same thing, expiry in 5 years. Can you point me to where he said he will immediately stop RFS?

The ethanol subsidy started before that act.

Cruz has always said he is for a 5 year phase out. He hasn’t changed his position. He realizes that you can’t abruptly pull the rug out from under an entire industry, but he does not support a mandate or subsidies going forward from that phase out.

Ted Cruz cannot as president, repeal laws already passed by congress and already signed into law. Nor has he ever implied that he could.

A president doesn't just sit around twiddling his thumbs waiting for Congress to give him a bill to sign. As the perceived single leader of the country, he has the responsibility of proposing what legislation should be passed.

The impression I had from earlier discussions of this topic was that Cruz's supporters were implying that he'd do something to end the mandate once he got in office, and not qualifying it by saying he'd allow it to end *someday*.

Of course Cruz is consistent on this issue. The Trump clowns are out in force spewing crap as usual, using a liberal crony green energy website to make false claims. That’s a new low for the Trump clown car kids.

No, Most of congress disagrees with Ted Cruz; he doesn’t sit well with the Establishment.

The point we were discussing is this is not a new stance for Ted Cruz.

It's my understanding that ethanol doesn't reduce pollution at all, and that it damages older car engines that weren't designed to use it.

True, in fact it is more polluting than gas without it.

And of course gov wants to destroy old cars so poor people won't be able to drive.

The want us all to live in heavily densly populated areas one on top of the other and use busses and bicycles instead of cars.

Cruz is pandering to Iowa to get votes. For shame.

And he wants to EXPAND the use of that useless substance.

Years ago in Calif we got MTBE banned, gas additive that poisned the water supply.

Canada sued the USA through the NAFTA thingie because we were buying MTBE from them.

Took YEARS after it was banned to get them to stop using it.

Perhaps you should judge a candidate by what he says and does, rather than impressions of what other suggest he might do.

Consider it methadone treatment for the Iowa hooked on ethanol economy.

Yes, and subsidy has expired.

What's in place now is a MANDATE to incorporate a certain percentage of ethanol in auto fuel.

That creates the artificial market for corn.
