RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Russia's push into Ukraine has put many on edge. But less known is that Russia is also strengthening its military links south of the Rio Grande and re-establishing itself as a power in the region.
Vladimir Putin has been strengthening military links here, and Russia is now the largest arms dealer to governments in Latin America, surpassing the United States.
Russia has even floated the possibility of building new military bases in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and putting its warships permanently in the Caribbean.
In the midst of the Ukraine crisis, Russia's top diplomat Sergei Lavrov recently visited Cuba, Peru, Chile, and Nicaragua, where he announced that Russia would also pour money into the new Central American canal project. ..."

Russia agreed to provide military training for three leftist regimes in Latin America and increase military visits and exercises following a visit last week to the region by Moscow's Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu, Pentagon officials said.
Shoygu met with defense and military leaders in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and signed several agreements on warship visits and military training during the visit, which ran from Feb. 11 to 14. It is not clear whether any new arms deals were completed during the visit.
Defense officials said the Russian leader is seeking bases in the region for strategic bomber flights that Shoygu recently promised would include flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Republican US presidential front-runner Donald Trump is apparently "honored" that Russian President Vladimir Putin considers the real-estate magnate a "flamboyant" and "very talented" man.
"It is always a great honor to be so nicely complimented by a man so highly respected within his own country and beyond," Trump said in a statement, according to Politico.
He continued: "I have always felt that Russia and the United States should be able to work well with each other towards defeating terrorism and restoring world peace, not to mention trade and all of the other benefits derived from mutual respect."

Is today election day ?
i saw no red shirts
No, Maduro already lost congressional support, but he’s contesting a few candidates in order to rupture the opposition’s majority support.
This is just the inauguration of the congressional folks I think.

"'I am determined to expand relations with Russia,' Chavez, known as an outspoken critic of what he calls the United States' unilateralism, told the Russian leader, adding that his determination stemmed from their shared vision of the global order.":

The opposition controlled National Assembly (they won a 2/3 majority on Dec. 6th) is supposed to take office today but......
Globovision has shown pictures of the closed subway stations near the National Assembly designed to prevent opposition supporters from reaching the area of the building.
Their rally was shown earlier on Globovision, but if you want to see all redshirts, all the time go over to VTV, the official government channel.
Their website:
When you get it click: “senal en vivo” at the top, but understand its a one sided show you’ll be watching for sure, comrade.
Some English language posting from Daniel Duquenal at his site

"The environment is suffering damage that could be irreversible - global warming, the greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, the rising sea level, hurricanes - with terrible social occurrences that will shake life on this planet."
"I believe this idea has a strong connection with reality. I don't think we have much time. Fidel Castro said in one of his speeches I read not so long ago, 'tomorrow could be too late, let's do now what we need to do'."
"I believe it is time that we take up with courage and clarity a political, social, collective and ideological offensive across the world - a real offensive that permits us to move progressively, over the next years, the next decades, leaving behind the perverse, destructive, destroyer, capitalist model and go forward in constructing the socialist model to avoid barbarism and beyond that the annihilation of life on this planet."

You may heard the anchor on Globovision talking over the group of opposition leaders walking towards the National Assembly building a moment ago.
Henry Ramos Allup is the new National Assembly president mentioned as the group was shown.
We are now seeing pictures from inside the National Assembly with new members on the floor.
Pictures are coming from VTV controlled by the regime and being rebroadcast by Globovision.
The television station of the National Assembly was shut down by the Maduro regime ahead of the opposition taking over.
Anybody who doesn’t get that Donald Trump is a globalist has blinders on.
How many gloBULLists want a border wall? How many want import duties and fair trade? How many want to deport illegals?
Trump's wall will be meaningless. He wants to bring the illegals right back as legal immigrants and "rapidly," on an expedited basis. Once they're naturalized, they'll vote Democrat, and the wall will come tumbling down as 'a symbol of hate.'
