Donald Trump claims that Ted Cruz is copying his idea of building a border fence, but the reality may be the opposite. First, here's what Trump says:

In fact, as recently as June of 2015 Trump was still talking about amnesty for illegal aliens:

So if you go back in time, it was Cruz, not Trump, who first pushed a border fence not just with rhetoric but with legislation, and it was Trump who started talking about the need for a border fence after Cruz started pushing for it. Because up to then, Trump was a pro-amnesty liberal democrat.
That's the problem with criticizing the past history of other candidates when your own history of conservatism only goes back six months. Cruz has not had a perfect history on immigration--he has pushed increased H1-B visas in the past, for example, but he has never pushed amnesty for illegal aliens like Trump did.
So Cruz, who was pushing the idea of a border fence while Trump was still a pro-amnesty liberal democrat, was the first to bring this idea to the forefront and Trump came later. Trump criticizing Cruz on his history regarding border security is just as ironic as criticizing Cruz for not being sufficiently religious.

Even GWBush and McInsane talked about a fence....they just talked about it.
Trump WILL build a WALL and deport ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADERS. Trump has a history of getting things done. Teddy Boy, not so much.

Any one of the politicians running could have came out swinging like Trump but they did NOT! Now they wait to see how the public reacts to Trump’s words before going on the record. We all KNOW that without Trump they all would have been more than happy to stick to the script!
The Donald can get the Chinese to build our wall and bill the Mexicans for it.

Was Trump a Republican or Democrat back then?
I’ve seen several variations on this “Did Trump get X idea from Cruz” or “Did Cruz have X idea first” theme. The answer to every one of them is the same: It doesn’t matter who had it first.
Does it matter if Cruz had the idea for the wall first if Trump swears he will build it? Does it matter if Cruz had the idea to repeal Obamacare first if Trump swears he will do it?
No. It doesn’t. When someone has a good idea, everyone would be smart to follow it.
Israel has proven that a well though out fence is just as effective as a wall.

Why yes it does. Because Trump is on the record supporting single payer healthcare. He was for it before he was against it.
Cruz NEVER supported it and put his ass on the line to try and stop it. Where was Trump then?

My point is that even if Cruz did call for a wall or a fence, he didn’t INSPIRE people with his vision of it.
The idea of a fence has been out there much before 2013. It was voted on and passed by Congress about 2007. So logic would lead to the fact that Trump did not get the idea from Cruz. He got it from Congress, but the impetus to build it is coming from Trump.
Are you inspired by Trump’s stated support for single payer healthcare?
Trump is going to abolish Obamacare and replace it with something much better that we’ll all love. As long as it’s not mandated, I can live with whatever program there is.

I’m in Texas and I cannot recall the last time my Senators....either one of them....were here screaming for/demanding a fence, or a wall.
I do recall one of my Senators welcoming the illegal invader ‘children’ with teddy bears, though :(
