Jeb's Six-Step Strategy to Salvage His Campaign
Legal Insurrection ^ | 1/2/16 | Fuzzy Slippers

Posted on 01/02/2016 2:11:38 PM PST by jimbo123

Double down on failed strategies and remind everyone it's his turn.

There has been a lot of speculation about whether or not Jeb Bush wants to be president. He doesn't seem to have that "fire in his belly" that his brother so often demonstrated on the campaign trail, and he didn't seem to be very interested in his campaign at the outset beyond the massive fundraising efforts and trying to win support from the traditional GOPe "king makers." This, actually, is what convinces me that Jeb does want to be president; he's just doing it the old, tired way, a way that simply doesn't work as traditional venues for political campaigns simply don't have the same audience share (and thus power) they once did. It also doesn-t help that the Republican primary voters are fed up with-and actively rebelling against—the traditional "it's your turn now" approach to GOP candidates for president.

Jeb and his campaign have a tried a number of strategies to help salvage his campaign, but from cutting staff to clumsy and awkward attacks on Marco Rubio and Donald Trump, his campaign quickly moved from tragedy to farce.

With the new year, Jeb seems to be planning a new series of steps to salvage his campaign. The New York Times reports that "aides to Mr. Bush and important allies described a long-shot plan to pull off what seems all but impossible: winning the Republican nomination for president. The plan has six elements."

"Our chief weapon is stay on the attack.
Our two chief weapons are stay on the attack and avoid embarrassment in Iowa!
Our THREE chief weapons are stay on the attack, avoid embarrassment in Iowa, and do well in New Hampshire."

(looks at press release)

"Amongst our chief weapons are the following: etcetera, etcetera "

With "Jeb!," you do sort of expect the Spanish Inquisition.

1. Realize he’s a loser.
2. Call mommy and see if he can still come home.
3. Give a very impressive farewell speech in Spanish to his supporters.
4. Quit.
5. Run to mommy.
6. Drop out of sight like a pathetic loser should.

He has been promised the nomination by the GOPe in a 'brokered' Convention.

I'm inclined toward that conclusion as well. Even so, he'll have to be a credible candidate at that point or they might as well nominate a turnip with a "Hillary For President" button on.

Turning 5% of the delegates into 51% is going to take a lot more than a little backroom finagling. And so far Yeb's team isn't displaying any ability to pull it off, rather the opposite: idiotic campaign slogans such as "Yeb!", which is reconstituted "Lamar!", and heaven help us, "Yeb can fix it!" which leads the cynical to suspect that Yebbie's running for dog catcher. Awful stuff.

"Stay on the attack" means something different in politics than "call the other guy names", and Yeb sounds like a petulant little boy shouting "poopie-head" and is being taken just as seriously. Trump especially, and to a lesser degree Cruz, are called "abrasive" for their manner and forgiven instantly for their positions. It's the positions, stupid! We're in January now, and the contest isn't for Miss Congeniality. Amnesty is a losing position. So are gun control, "social justice", academic racism, and civil rights for perverts. Expressing any of these forcefully will, in the current politically correct media environment, get a candidate a reputation for being abrasive. Embrace the abrasion.

Or quit. Because brokering in a loser is the way to lose.

Bush’s brother lost Congress in 2006 & ushered in 8 yrs of Obama because of deficits, bailouts, TARP cover-up, & letting Democrats buy the 2008 election by handing out “stimulus checks” which were guaranteed to keep us out of a recession at the beginning of 2008 when none was predicted & the jobless rate was a little over or a little under 5% .(It was 4.8% in Feb. 2008) Bush appointed Bernanke. Chose “deficits don’t matter” Cheney......and let the price of gas skyrocket to $4 in 2008 to kill the demand side of the economy along with the supply side money leaving the country & going into gold & foreign markets, currencies and oil.....but blaming “demand from India and China”....which nobody believed. Bush fatigue is real. If W Hadn’t been elected, maybe Jeb would look attractive now, but the country & the party have changed.......and neither party & most independent voters can stomach the idea of another Bush presidency...even if they suspect Jeb to be more like his father than his brother. George W’s tax code was an incoherent, pandering mess of handouts to buy every constituency imaginable......including giving unwed mothers a huge tax credit, but they still didn’t vote Republican. But Bush didn’t even give a tax deduction to fathers paying child support.

  2. Call it again after no one shows up the first time.
  3. Ramble incoherently, throwing in some buzzwords, in English.
