Republican candidate highlights image as difficult ideologue as he leads race in Iowa, with supporters seeing the Texas senator as a party 'renegade'
Mechanicsville, Virginia - Ted Cruz's reputation as an arrogant, grating, in-your-face ideologue has dogged him throughout the Republican presidential race. But it hasn't stopped the Texas senator's rise in the polls.
Cruz, who leads in Iowa and leads the pack chasing Donald Trump elsewhere, is increasingly embracing his irascible persona, trying to turn what could be a liability into an asset....

Or to put it another way... “tells the truth in a rational manner.” That’s the most offensive thing you can do today.
He used to look good to me, but now I find him simply irresistible.
We’re tired of friendly go-along-to-get-along nice guys. We’re tired of mutual back scratching. Frankly, I want a combination of Ron White and Rocky Balboa.
Yes, maybe. Actually I don’t consider him all that abrasive.
But Hillary’s demeanor is warm and embraceable.
Cruz’s draws sharp contrasts on policy issues using substantive arguments. Trump engages in 3rd grade, school yard bully personal insults.

Are they trying to make him look Trumpish?
That's it exactly.
One man’s “arrogant, grating, in-your-face ideologue” is another man’s principled leader. I prefer the latter. We can tell who’s side the AP and the Manchester Guardian is on.
First term Senator Cruz is trying to learn as he goes. Haven’t we had enough of first-term senators that can’t do their job in the senate and instead spend all their efforts running for president? Obama, Rubio, Cruz...
That's James Carville. Cruz is the exact opposite. But I guess he's like a crucifix to a vampire.
Having followed him I can say he hasn’t changed at all.He is not “trying” to do anything but be who he is.
Insults and name calling, your trademark. You’re an embarrasement to this fine site.
He’s hardly just a first term Senator.
Cum Laude at Princeton, Magna Cum Laude at Harvard. Editor of Law Review and actually WROTE reviews unlike some we know.
Was Solicitor General of Texas and argued 9 CONSERVATIVE cases before the SCOTUS.
In private practice brought his firm to be one of the top Appellate firms in the world.
Of course he’s not a real estate developer who inherited $21 million from his slumlord father, but he has a pretty good resume.
{”Insults and name calling,your trademark. Youâre an embarrasement to this fine site.”}
That’s an extreme reaction to what was said.
This post is not for you, don’t waste time reading further.
Your post is simply an excuse for me to post something for those who are drawn in by the ‘school yard bully’ angle.
In case you haven’t seen this, here is an interesting angle on Trumps ‘whining’ and his ‘thin skinned’ reactions to attacks.
