High rise buildings are lovely to look at, and offer bragging rights and a gee-whiz appeal as they climb ever higher, but many if not all are death traps for workers and residents...

The reason is $$$$$$$$$$$. Have a friend who just finished up a one year tour of duty with a private contractor that provided Flight EMS training to the Emirates. $200K, furnished luxury housing and car, Living the life of an oil sheik. Same goes for other medical professionals, engineers, and teachers. And that is just the non mercenary opportunities.
Great post. Educated insights into a terrifying scenario, and its got to be worse where fire/building codes are loosely enforced.
