I'm hoping the SLS program will be a bit of a success. Russia is bailing. It seems that in the next so-many years it'll be the US/China in competition. I hope Trump wakes up on space issues.

Russia is “bailing” because their partner China will supply all needs in relation to this matter.

Hey Vlad, how’s that price of oil & gas thing working out for you? Russia is a fuel pump with a kleptocracy attached to it.

... updated version of the Federal Space Programme for the years 2016 through 2025 ...

Compared with the version of the programme, which Roscosmos presented in April 2015, the creation of a lunar landing/takeoff complex, a lunar orbital station, construction of a lunar base, the designing of a spacesuit for operations on the Moon, and designing of a system for robotic maintenance on the moon have been removed from the list of financed programmes ...

However, works continue on a spaceship that might make flights to the Moon in the future.

On Monday, President Putin signed a decree on disbanding the Federal State Agency that will be replaced with a state space corporation. The same presidential decree instructed the government "to ensure the continuity of powers of and functions transferred to the State Corporation for Space Activity Roscosmos from the Federal Space Agency."

Space programs are expensive. So is war. Russia doesn’t have the option of making the rest of the world front its overspending. Russia has to make choices.

We’ve been there. We know what’s there. The only thing of value we’ll bring back from there is a thorough systems test of what we’ll need when we reach out for Mars, asteroids, and beyond. So spending a lot of money on the moon does not seem too productive.
