Because they’re idiots and know nothing about Mexico. In any case, Puerto Vallarta is inhabited almost entirely by American and European short term visitors, so he and Mom were probably dumb enough to think they’d blend in with the crowd.

What I want to know is of anything ever happened to the judge who let him off with that “defense.” There should have been major outcry about this, but I don’t recall seeing anything except from a few people here.

It is worthwhile to note that the kid waived a jury trial. So the judge handled everything.

And that judge simply retired. And I'm betting that she has a Swiss bank account that dwarfs her civil service pension.

She found that she was able to comfortably retire shortly after making this ruling.

Well, there was a major outcry, and not just here. But I suppose that as a matter of law the Judge’s decision was final. I don’t think the prosecution has any right to appeal anything in our system and I’m pretty sure we want it to stay that way, no matter the occasional stupid decision.

But, don’t forget it was some acquaintance of this guy who sent the picture of him drinking and thus violating his probation to the judge and twitter, so some young person felt strongly enough about it to do that.
