I understand where you are coming from.
The thing that truly bothers me about foreign aid, is the part you touched on. We give it to folks who despise us. That’s just insane.
If we had our heads on straight, giving 5% or less of our overall spending wouldn’t be a bad investment, if we helped friends temporarily, and made new ones.
We have to recognize there are other nations out there competing with us who will give funds. If we wish to see things go our way in the world, we need to be engaged and this is one way to help with that.
Today, the world has shrunk to the point even on the other side of the planet, what takes place affects us directly. We cannot disengage, as vacuums will be filled.
That said, we have to be wise about it. We haven’t been, and you’re right on target with that.
We give away over half a trillion dollars in Welfare payments each year. Rather than deal with that, we cut the military and blame other things like foreign aid. If we had our spending under control, the military and reasoned other expenditures would not loom so large.
Welfare is an important issue, becuase right now we pay out about $500 billion a year. Imagine that back at around $50 billion, with a couple of hundred billion coming back in in taxes. We would be almost two thirds of a trillion dollars right side up on that. That should be our goal.
I think Trump would see this for what it is in minutes. So would his advisers.
To that end...
Thank you for your comments.
