Two migrants drowned and 12 others were injured Friday when they tried to enter into the tiny Spanish territory of Ceuta in North Africa by swimming from Morocco or scaling a barbed-wire fence, officials in both nations said.
Just before 4:00 am (0300 GMT) a group of over 300 migrants tried to get into the Spanish city which borders Morocco and is located across the Strait of Gibraltar from mainland Spain, the Spanish government authority in Ceuta said in a statement.
Moroccan forces intercepted over 120 migrants but 182 others managed to get into Ceuta by climbing over the fence or swimming into the territory, it said.
Ceuta along with Melilla to the east are two Spanish territories on the northern coast of Morocco that together form the European Union's only land borders with Africa.
Spain fortified fences in the two territories last year in response to a rise in the number of migrants trying to jump over the barriers from neighbouring Morocco.

The Syrian “refugees” are actually refusing to go to Spain, which was alotted a certain number by the EU, because they say Spanish benefits aren’t enough for them to maintain themselves in the style they believe they deserve. I think Spain was going to give them what would be basic welfare for Spanish citizens, but apparently other countries are knocking themselves out to provide better benefits than even their citizens would get.
If Spain acted like ISIS, they would impale the heads of those refugees/migrants on the fences. Time to go barbaric on those invaders.
About 9 years ago on the Canary Islands, a group of about 12 Spaniards met a raft full of African “migrants” with golf clubs and baseball bats.
There were several dead and no charges against the home team.
Why are they called migrants instead of invaders?
Spain, with one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe (and one of the lowest birthrates), won’t even pretend these people will contribute anything. Spain is now to Europe what Mexico is to North America, sending their youth north(east) to work in Germany and send back remittances to the remaining Spaniards. These immigrants don’t speak Spanish, and simply have no role in Spain; they don’t need non-Spanish speaking “Mexicans” (just as the US doesn’t, either).
They also won't contribute anything to these people, which is why they will most likely keep right on going to France or Portugal.
