The Donald may seem immature to some, and rather more full of sound and fury, but there is one thing he is doing that is striking a chord with many voters (and not just a narrow sliver of Republicans) - he is calling out “political correctness” for what it is, a source of coercion and bullying of the less assertive among us.
All the times the pundits have claimed that “Trump has stepped in it now”, and therefore his campaign was finally stalled or even in a death spiral, The Donald has come back to even larger and more enthusiastic crowds. Each time he is attacked by his rivals for his larger-than-life presentations, it is the attacker who falls in the polls and The Donald gets another bounce in his numbers.
Loud and blustering The Donald might be, but he is one pretty shrewd player, and he has played his competition like a cheap fiddle.
He was better at the economy, the invasion of the US not getting out of control, and compared to today didn't destroy world civilization with regime change schemes. The bad globalist policies of the past 20 years hadn't yet overwhelmed us.
The thing is, Clinton left the presidency in January of 2001. Voters younger than their early 30s don't have much memory of the Clinton WH, except maybe schoolyard lessons about what Monica provided. They remember hillary's disaster as Secretary of State. Besides that, younger women don't seem to expect to play the "I am woman" card to get ahead.
I can't see how rolling that dirty old man our to campaign for his over-the-hill crone wife is going to help. Trump has aged so much better than those two that the contrast helps Trump.

When given that choice, apparently what we really want is someone credible who simply speaks plainly, clearly and directly to the no BS area of our brains.
How refreshing! An extremely successful salesman who is selling plain language and simple, observable truths to US, all the while treating US like we're intelligent human beings.
That Donald Trump is that salesman is somewhat remarkable, but people are more than warming up to him and his way of giving it to us straight.
