Ten days after the Paris terrorist attacks, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie trumpeted his connections to Americans who lost loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001.
"For me, it is a daily occurrence to look into the eyes of the people who lost their husbands and wives, their fathers and mothers, their sisters and brothers, their sons and daughters," he told the Council on Foreign Relations in November. "The threat is not minimal."
A little more than a week later, after the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, Calif., those words seemed prophetic -- and the Republican presidential hopeful shifted emphasis from the personal to the professional.
"I'm a former federal prosecutor," Christie said as he introduced himself at the Republican debate in Las Vegas on Dec. 15. "I've fought terrorists."
The tough-on-terror message appears to be resonating in New Hampshire, where polling shows Christie moving up and now tied for second place behind GOP front-runner Donald Trump. But Christie's recent remarks on his counterterrorism experience are also prompting backlash, particularly among supporters of his political rivals, who note that Christie was much better known for battling public corruption than for fighting terrorism when he was a U.S. attorney.
"His newfound war on terror?" said Rick Shaftan, a New Jersey Republican political strategist who is supporting one of Christie's rivals, Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.). "His whole thing was corruption. That was his claim to fame, not terror."
Patrick Murray, director of polling at Monmouth University, said Christie "made sure people knew" he was fighting corruption as a prosecutor from 2002 to 2008.
At the same time, counterterrorism was clearly a higher priority for all U.S. attorneys after 9/11, particularly those in districts neighboring New York, according to those familiar with the kind of work that prosecutors such as Christie ...

Christie is a liar. He is dirt and will be washed out to sea with the Jersey tide.
Don’t be so harsh, just let go back to the end of the line at the local Krispy Kreme doughnut stand.
Lock Christie and Moore in a room, two mouths enter, one mouth leaves, the world would be 50% better off either way.
The food of Heaven is Crispy Creme donuts...of that I am sure.;-)
Are you sure? Yyou have not been there lately, as the name starts with a “k.”
Well, Christie went after the corrupt Hudson County democrats who were stealing boatloads through “operation bid rig”. 43 Hudson County democrats were indicted, the largest political corruption scandal in US history.
Who lead the investigation and wasted millions of dollars on the non-scandal called “bridgegate” Hudson County Democrats
“bridgegate” was payback for Christie’s corruption sting that put 43 Hudson County democrats behind bars.
Machine politics, that is all it was.
Christie should have led the charge against them during the bridgegate instead of “apologizing” every minute. He lost a ton of support because he looked like wimp during that time and never gained it back. With Trump in the race, we have no use for Christie on the national stage. He should go back to New Jersey and do something positive for the state
In the last debate, Lard Ass Christie said it again, I heard him say it, that he was appointed as U.S. Attorney one day after 9/11.
He has been corrected in the past for saying it, yet he continues to do it.
On December 7, 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Christie the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.
What is the point of this particular, repeated lie?
He’s a blowhard. Tough talker and let me mention he’s from New Jersey.
“In New Jersey, I did this, and that.”
Well, “in New Jersey, you kissed Obama’s hiney and praised that Marxist,” just days before the 2012 election for ALL to see and hear.
I can’t stand Christie.
Christie should have been disbarred and (IMHO) jailed for this atrocity. Yet he is trying to ride it to the Presidency. He KNOWS it was a flim-flam case. What an evil SOB!!!
Why Council of Foreign Relations...What part do they have to play in this election???
After IOWA and NH. a lot of people will be getting out of the race.
I do NOT want Christie but the article is saying nothing. Apparently he did handle terror cases. It’s a stupid criticism that he was more known for corruption investigations.
To be sure I want to be clear Christie is an absolute blow hard as governor. Shameless self promoter but has produced little.
The C is used to mock Christie.
I'm old enough to remember when directors of polling did not insert themselves into controversies with political partisan statements.
