He's not 'one of the guys' on the trail, but he also didn't seem to belong in the Ivy League - or even among politicos
The weather has finally cooled a bit, and that can only mean one thing: time for Ted Cruz to dump his ill-fitting suits and ties for his even iller-fitting collection of flannel shirts and leather jackets. The #Cruz Country Christmas Tour (in a private jet) is under way and headed to a town near you.
Why does the Texas senator lumberjack around America when the temperature drops? Is he trying to create synergy with the cover of his latest book?
That's possible, but the real reason Ted Cruz wears flannel shirts and leather jackets in the winter is because he wants nothing more than to be perceived as one of the guys. Not just because it could win him the White House, but because he's always been that kid in school that had no friends. The one whose parents made him insufferable by constantly telling him how much better he is than everyone else.
Cruz's father, Rafael, has been brainwashing his son since he was about four years old to believe he's "gifted above any man he knows" and "destined by God for greatness", the kinds of delusions that were guaranteed to get him stuffed in a locker by junior high.
Unfortunately, training to become Daddy's little messiah didn't leave Cruz time to develop even the slightest sense of style, and GQ has some stern fashion advice for him.
"In general, we're not exactly sure why presidential hopefuls think that oversized, awkward leather jackets will make them seem more, 'relatable to voters'," the website said on Tuesday.

So much to comment on here, but I’ll pick on just one, the fact is when it comes to brainwashing that is what liberals do to their children.
Here is what a righteous man does with his children: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Ted Cruz is evidence his father believed and trusted the truth.
Actually, Cindy, Cruz’s father tried to do his job as a father and instill confidence in him and make sure he was well educated so he wouldn’t wind up being a JOURNALIST!
Its actually not a bad article. People have the right to criticize the general appearance of a candidate, and this article espouses a legitimate angle...
“Cruz’s father, Rafael, has been brainwashing his son since he was about four years old to believe he’s “gifted above any man he knows” and “destined by God for greatness”, the kinds of delusions...”
Because as we all know, its so much better telling kids they will never amount to anything, that racism abounds in America, an evil nation that causes suffering around the world, that the best you can hope for will only be what you can get get from government, if only the mean Conservatives don’t stop it first.
I wish more parents would plant God’s Word into the hearts of their children, teach them to dream, work hard, because in a free country and with God’s Blessing, truly there is no limit. If more children were raised this way, we would have more lot more Ted Cruz and Ben Carson success stories, and not half the country dependent on their fellow taxpayers.
The economy? Taxes and Debt? Runaway spending?
Honesty? Integrity? Leadership in a crisis? Foreign policy?
Overburdensome regulation and shrinking personal liberty?
How about illegal immigration? The threat of worldwide terrorism?
Crime in the streets? Crime in the boardroom? Crime in government?
Can't come out ahead on any of these, so they're left with personal attacks.
Woods nailed it.
The ponce’s in England who stand by when teenage girls are raped by Islamists bathed in the mercy of God have their clothing tailored on Savile Row. W4nkers!
The suit don’t make the man, unless of course it’s a democrat!
This piece reeks of leftist snarkiness. I wouldn't disagree that personal appearance sometimes merits criticism. E.g. we freely criticize Madame Clinton's Mao-suits.
But I don't see your "legitimate angle" here.
As for the writer's glib assertion that Cruz has a "messiah complex" ... here's proof of a messiah-complex-to-beat-all- messiah-complexes:
...I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth...
And guess which "messiah" proclaimed that, Cindy?
WEll I think we can all agree Ted needs a tailor but then so did Lincoln. :-)
What is Cindy’s Freeper name?
Flannel shirts are just what men wear in the winter...at least, the men I know of. I like seeing them with jeans.
Last night on a Cruz thread, though, some were making fun of his “off the rack” clothing, so I guess they all have their wardrobe custom made by tailors./S
Anyone who thinks Ted Cruz is “femme” is a damned fool and a liar, and ought to be ashamed.
I’d love to see what some of these keyboard alpha warriors look like.
The teen Beat crowd fixates on superficials.
Around here real men don’t have tailors.
She worked for Ann Richards.
Yep, same here.
None of the males around here would be taking lessons in masculinity from Manhattanites who eat pizza with a fork.
Obviously that quote was 0, and yes, there was an over the top quality to it. Back then, the media were grappling with the novelty of the first black president, and the stultifying effect it had on their journalistic impulses prevented any serious examination of their candidate, something many of them have lamented over the years...
As Rush says, the libs are becoming unhinged.
