Five years ago, Adrianna Vorderbruggen was forced to keep her relationship with another woman secret. Only after the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in 2011 could Maj. Vorderbruggen, an Air Force officer, even acknowledge her identity as a lesbian, let alone marry her partner and raise a child with her.
For advocates of gay rights in the military, she provided "a perfect narrative" of what it took to quietly endure and ultimately overcome discrimination in the ranks. She showed, said Kate Kendell, the executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, "what was required to be in the military, to hide who you were."
But this week a suicide bomber violently altered the arc of Major Vorderbruggen's narrative from triumph to heartbreak. On Monday, Major Vorderbruggen was one of six American service members killed when the bomber drove his motorcycle into a convoy of American military vehicles near Bagram Airbase north of Kabul.

Is it really “tragic”? She died an honorable death.
PRAYERS for this military woman who sacrificed her life for my freedom..and all the others who died.
Please, God, help us get rid of this Islamic death cult.
To them, her military career and any accomplishments in her life are meaningless. The only thing that matters is that she was a lesbian.
Those who died....yes, the tragedy is that their life was snuffed out before they could go back to be with their parents, their families.
But yes, an honorable death.
No mention that the Taliban was behind the attack and is now being called a ‘partner’ of the U.S. in the region.
the Left does not see human beings...only agendas.
As Stalin said,” One death is a tragedy, millions of death are just statistics.”
Really? You must be kidding. The biggest threat to our freedom is the same government that sent her over to that Third World sh!t-hole.
This administration in its utter incompetency is the Ultimate Tragedy.
Sexual orientation is all that matters to the new york slime
The crux of the story in the local media here in the Twin Cities, is that she left a wife and a child.
Give it a break!
This is a military woman who gave her life. I honor that, she didn’t get to choose her assignment, and just because we have an evil government, I do not diminish her sacrifice.
I don’t see her being a lesbian has anything to do with her giving her life to serve the US Armed Forces. God Bless Her!
I think this attack happened one day BEFORE Bergdahl’s court hearing. Was this attack done in a show of the Taliban’s solidarity with Bergdahl? Call me crazy.. conspiracy theory time.
#heterolivesmatter
Is it really “dignity” when you have to use the power of the government to force people to pretend that they respect you? I had more respect for homosexuals when they had to live in the closet.
Not crazy at all these days.
Bergdahl ‘s case is a clear example that our government can not tell the difference between good and evil. thank heavens the military is going forward with this slime’s case..regardless of the political pressure.
