Hillary's Southern Accent Comes Out In Iowa

During a speech in Iowa Tuesday, Hillary Clinton's Southern accent made a comeback. In the Midwest.

In August, we (ranked) her Southern accent when it came out in an interview with the chairman of the South Carolina Democratic party. We're once again ranking the intensity of her Southern accent in a video, using a fried chicken scale (1 = lowest, 5 = strongest). (watch here):

Although, Cletus does admit to “falling” into an urban vernacular when he is back in Michigan and talking to his homies (HS friends and acquaintances) .

For some reason, people who consider themselves urbane are under the impression that rural people speak in a sort of pidgin southern dialect.

While Southern accents are not uncommon in the South and may be encountered elsewhere, the combination of ersatz dialect and 'talking down' to a crowd are condescension at its obvious worst, because it is assumed by the speaker this is the speech of the ignorant hick.

Any candidate who talks down to a crowd I am in can look forward to the absence of my support, regardless of party affiliation.
