And so, an unlikely year in US politics comes near to the end with Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump sparking a debate about Yiddish semantics.
It all stems from his use of the word "schlonged" against Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.
Referring to her defeat by Barack Obama in the 2008 primary race, he told supporters in Michigan: "She was favoured to win and she got schlonged, she lost."
Use of the word, which is from the Yiddish for penis, has been criticised but Mr Trump hit back on Twitter.
"Once again, #MSM [mainstream media] is dishonest. 'Schlonged' is not vulgar. When I said Hillary got 'schlonged' that meant beaten badly," he wrote.
So was he correct to suggest it is a neutral, commonplace saying? Mr Trump tweeted that the phrase had been used in politics before, to refer to an earlier Democratic campaign.

Trump isn’t the only one using colorful language and these guys did it in OFFICE!

[snips]
Vice President Joe Biden was heard telling Obama “this is a big f——— deal” during the March 23, 2010, signing of the health care reform bill.
Cheney told Sen. Patrick Leahy (on the senate floor!)on June 24, 2004, to “go f-— yourself” when the Vermont Democrat blasted Halliburton’s role in Iraq.
Then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush, running in the 2000 presidential race, was caught on a live microphone tearing into New York Times reporter Adam Clymer. At a Labor Day 2000 rally in Naperville, Illinois, Bush called him a “major-league a—hole.”
Bill and Hillary Clinton
While President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton were not known to have cursed publicly, numerous accounts from White House insiders over the years tell a different story — that both often using the f-word in conversations and arguments inside and outside the White House.
Yup. They're all wee-weed up about it.
So Hillary thinks she can get by without the under thirty vote. People of that age—many if not most, anyway— have no patience with tightly wound, brittle, whiny, easily-offended/judgmental older people who make a big deal out of words twenty-somethings consider normal and harmless.
Good points
It’s a schlong schlong way to Tipperary
The net has two other occasions when Trump used the same word referring to political candidates being beaten badly by their opponents. It was also a word frequently used by Happy Rockefeller
Hmm have German ancestors. Always thought it applied to deceived by “snake in grass.”Now I know why thanks
Whatever. What's offensive is when hillary said "what difference does it make?" about the Benghazi deaths.
Isn’t his daughter , Ivanka marry a Orthodox Jewish man?
Yes she and the children also are practicing Jews. But even way back in his history his dad’s partner was Jewish. He loved Don and often had him in his home to celebrate holidays. When he went to military school roommates and friends were often from wealthy NYC Jewish families. when he bought the Florida resort property he immediately opened it to both Jews and Afican Americans which royally activated the local uppities!
Imagine the uproar if heâd have said “close but no cigar.”

Nice one for the eventual face to face debate! “Obama certainly gave you the cigar in ‘08”
Hopefully Trump will point this out after he gets the nomination and goes head to head against The Beast.
It’s all been in print many many times
He said at a Jewish Republican meeting recently held in Vegas (he was introduced as a schmuck with Kapotz). That he had a wall full of award from the Jewish community I know he has served as grand Marshall at one of their parades.
What was fun about the speech is the audience laughed at all the right places. Comments that would go over most of our heads.
He talks to us, as though we've all been friends for a long time; he's relaxed and just tells it like it is.
