The Jobar neighborhood of Damascus is the epicenter of some of the fiercest fighting in Syria with Islamist rebels refusing to give up their only stronghold. Once densely populated, the area has now been completely obliterated, RTâs Murad Gadziev reports.
Most of the pre-conflict population has fled the rebel-held neighborhood of Jobar in the eastern suburb of Ghouta in Damascus, while fighting between the Syrian army and rebel groups has devastated the suburb over the past years.
Before the conflict in Syria erupted in 2011, the neighborhood was home to some 300,000 residents, most of whom were Sunni Muslims. The suburb contained a number of ancient landmarks, most notably the Green Synagogue, the oldest Jewish synagogue in the world. It also contained the Grand Jobar Mosque in addition to the tomb of the Prophet Elijah. Jobar also housed ancient baths that were built during Ottoman times.
Now totally destroyed, as can be seen in RTâs exclusive drone footage, Jobar is just one of the many testaments to the ongoing brutality and civilian suffering which has taken place during the Syrian war. The rebels who are holed up in Jobar and moving via underground tunnels donât belong to any single group, the Syrian military told RTâs Murad Gadziev.

Vladimir Putin's media Svengali who was found dead in DC hotel was 'murdered for being an FBI informant'
"Nicknamed the 'Bulldozer', Lesin was one of the key props of the Putin presidency, personally masterminding a wide-ranging media crackdown which has left the vast majority of Russian TV stations and newspapers obedient to the Kremlin."

Why is it that no other new outlet has brought us these images?
Ah hell, it's must be fake because ETL hates Russians.
But don't post your propaganda crap on my threads. Just stay away if you can't help yourself.
It looks like Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn(1970s)..
Looks like parts of Paris in 10 years.
Putin knows how to handle Islamists. Just check Grozny. Leveled to the ground and then rebuilt. That is the only way this clash of civilizations can end.
I think I came across this on al jezzera. Of course it was from the muslim view with them whining about where their muslim brothers are to fight the russians.. They’re in europe & America. They’re not interested in fighting russia!
British newspaper The Guardian notes that recently, readers have been complaining of pro-Russia propaganda being posted in the comments section of articles about Russia and Ukraine.
One reader wrote to The Guardian:
"One need only pick a Ukraine article at random, pick any point in the comments at random, and they will find themselves in a sea of incredibly aggressive and hostile users (the most obvious have accounts created since February 2014 ... but there also exist those who registered with the Guardian before the high point of the crisis) who post the most biased, inciteful [sic] pro-Kremlin, anti-western propaganda that seems as if it's taken from a template, so repetitive are the statements. Furthermore, these comments are consistently capturing inordinate numbers of 'recommends', sometimes on the order of 10 to 12 times what pro-Ukrainian comments receive."
Guardian comment moderators believe this is an orchestrated campaign.
Russia has worked hard to make people believe that the country is supporting the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine and defending those people against some type of threat. These "comment mills" play into that strategy.
Last year, The Atlantic wrote about how the Russian government apparently pays people to "sit in a room, surf the Internet, and leave sometimes hundreds of postings a day that criticize the country's opposition and promote Kremlin-backed policymakers."
This practice isn't new, according to The Atlantic. But it can stifle open discussion about political issues in Russia, giving a louder voice to those who support the Kremlin.

Somebody did a pretty good job of it with artillery and mortars. Thousands of tons of ordinance to do that damage.
I suspect that the original poster meant that nuclear bombardment would be the preferred instrument of destruction, since it entails none of those "pesky refugees."
Regards,
The last fossil fuels? Where have you been the last decade?
Granted that some of this IS about oil, but we are not remotely near running out... Nor is the planet overpopulated. Certain parts are, but many of those parts are relatively peaceful - India, for example.
The real fights for resources will come when the next period of glaciation (or a nuclear or asteroid impact winter) occurs, or maybe if Yellowstone blows (possibly cutting U.S. agriculture output in half or worse.) A Carrington event could do it too.
Saw some syrian army tank video a year ago on YT which made the total destruction fairly evident from ground level.
Our own media boldly lies, numerous tabloids have had major stories on aliens from outer space, and our History Channel has had a serious series on ancient alien involvement with humans.
I think FReepers can handle an updated Pravda.
i’m sure you’re aware US administrations have been doing that for more then 15 years
What’s ironic is that given how desirable it is to live near Manhattan as possible in 2015, a lot those formerly decrepit housing are now being refurbished and rented to the higher bidder. Go look at what happened to Harlem in the 1990’s.
8 years of rat administartion with an imposter at the helm
But the satellite dishes are still up, many of them. At least the residents still have TV.
I don' think Americans did this.
negro foreign policy equals negro domestic experience... chaos.
At least most of the sat dishes on the roofs, survived, and might be reusable. </sarcasm>
Yea.......I imagine it could qualify.
Can we see the rest of the city?
