Hundreds of civilians killed in Russian airstrikes

Russia's air campaign in Syria has killed hundreds of civilians and caused massive destruction in residential areas, according to a report released Wednesday by Amnesty International.

The rights group claims the pattern of attacks "show evidence of violations of international law."

Russia has been engaged in a military campaign in Syria in support of embattled President Bashar al-Assad since September. Moscow says its operation is aimed at defeating "terrorist targets" there, but the United States claims the Russian airstrikes are targeting Syrian opposition forces rather than ISIS, which has taken control of large parts of the country.

The Amnesty report, entitled "Syria: Civilian Objects Were Not Damaged: Russia's Statements in Syria Unmasked," singles out six attacks it says took place in the Syrian cities of Homs, Idlib and Aleppo between September and November this year, which claimed the lives of at least 200 civilians and around a dozen Syrian rebel fighters. The group also claimed Russia covered up damage to a mosque in one air strike, and a field hospital in another.

“the United States claims the Russian airstrikes are targeting Syrian opposition forces rather than ISIS”

ISIS as different than anyone else over there is a fiction. It’s like caring whether your Ukrainian village in WWII is being killed by the SS, the Wehrmacht, Romanian allies, or a reserve German police formation.

ISIS is Al Nusra, is Al Qeida, is Moderate Syrian resistance, etc. All the same. Only a McCain or Obama or neocon can see any difference.

No surprises here.

It's the old Soviet doctrine of applying overwhelming force against the entrenched enemy.

From Berlin to Idlib, the Russians want to win and if that means killing everything on site that is what they will do.

The US on the other hand does not want to win and like many other Western powers (including Israel) tie their hands behind their backs and limping, hit out in moderation which, does not teach the enemy anything.

As long as i don’t dwell on the fact only 2 hundred were killed i’m quite sure this shouldn’t interfere with my sleeping tonight.

Amnesty International attempted to shame Russia into self criticism and inaction, with such classics as “a mother and her two children were killed”, “a hospital”, “a mosque”.

Col. Gen. Andrei Kartapolov said: “We will not only continue with our strikes, but increase their intensity.”

How many Hiroshima/Nagasakis did it take for the Japanese war machine to give up on sacrificing even more lives (both sides) than they already had?

What did Sherman do to get the Civil War stopped?

Figure it out . . .

Plus the mercenaries go where the money is. ISIS pays more because they are selling the oil.
