Virginia to end concealed carry reciprocity with other states
The Washington Post ^ | December 22 2015 | Jenna Portnoy

RICHMOND — Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) plans to announce Tuesday that Virginia will no longer recognize concealed carry handgun permits from 25 states that have reciprocity agreements with the commonwealth.

The move also means Virginians with a history of stalking, drug dealing or inpatient mental-health treatment cannot obtain a permit in a state with comparatively lax laws and carry a handgun legally at home.

Herring said severing the out-of-state agreements can prevent people who may be dangerous or irresponsible from carrying a concealed weapon.

“To me, this is a commonsense step that can help make Virginians and our law enforcement officers safer by ensuring that Virginia’s laws on who can and cannot carry a concealed handgun are applied evenly, consistently, and fairly,” he said in a statement provided to The Washington Post.

“Our General Assembly has already identified who can and cannot conceal handguns in Virginia, and we cannot have that decision undermined by recognizing permits from other states with more permissive standards.”

Which means that those states will probably pull reciprocity for Virginia.

Yup, the gun-grabbers are always lurking about looking for another way to take away or impinge our rights.

“.... prevent people who may be dangerous or irresponsible from carrying a concealed weapon....” Hey, why not put up some gun free zone signs at the state line too. That ought to stop any further “gun violence” in VA.

And here I was thinking that the moron quotient couldn’t go any higher...I hope the Virginia Citizen Defense League (VCDL) cranks up the heat on this. They’ve flexed their political muscle effectively in previous circumstances.

Aside from a massive influx of Muslims and illegals, what the hell has happened to Virginia?

Proper response to this idiocy? Go somewhere else.

If you have a driver’s license from one state you can drive in any state. More people are killed each year in auto deaths from people exercising this PRIVILEDGE.

The entire country should have Constitutional carry, it’s a Constitutional RIGHT.

“””””prevent people who may be dangerous or irresponsible from carrying a concealed weapon””””””

Yes, because we know it gun laws that keep criminals from carrying guns.
They really do believe this line. They really believe someone that wants to commit murder will think twice about breaking a gun law.

Just when law enforcement are increasingly recommending those with conceal carry permits start packing to thwart another terrorist attack.

What are we to make of this?

Cuccinelli would be the governor of Va if the Republicans hadn’t stabbed in the back. He beat the establishment guy in the primary, so the Lesser Of Two Evils party bankrolled a fake libertarian.

I assume this is coming from the east coast of Virginia... Richmond, Norfolk.
I have been told the eastside and westside of Virginia are like two different countries.

this is a commonsense step

Anytime you read this you can be sure that it makes no sense to anyone (except the nutcase making the statement).

I am sure this is evidence-based legislation. /sarc.

How many crimes in Virginia are committed by out-of-state CWP holders?

Probably approaching zero.

IIRC, the SCOTUS ruled that what is legal in one State MUST be recognized as legal in all other States.
