I think a lot of people were fooled by Ryan. they thought it would be a stand up guy and would do the right thing.I know many of us were fooled. Plus he appeared not to want the job. it’s hard to hard to underestimate just how strong just how difficult leadership can be on House members and then again on Senate members

If you remember nobody wanted or would take the Speaker job. He is only doing what the Establishment wants.

The circumstances under which Ryan took the speakers job is a mystery to me and its something I would really like to get into and find out what actually happened it just doesn’t smell right to me.

With just the little digging I’ve done nothing makes sense. his wife’s mother had just left them several million dollars its not like they were in bad shape financially. He was ready to go on with his with the job that he had ways and means he didn’t want speaker at all. and then he meets with Mitt and then all the sudden all changes it’s just a big question mark for me.

I believe at that point there was literally nobody else willing to take the job.

Merry Christmas

“The circumstances under which Ryan took the speakers job is a mystery to me”

Let me clear it up for you. The conservative caucus managed to get Boehner agree to vacate the seat and then they started looking around for a new Speaker and the only guy who was willing to take the job that could get 218 votes was Paul Ryan so they got stuck with him.

We had no such compunctions in WWII. Aside from the atomic bombs, the fire bombings of Dresden, Hamburg, Tokyo, etc. killed far more than the atomic bombs.

True, but let me say this about that being from the Air Force...

The bombing we did in WWII was terribly inaccurate. We missed most of the time. And with 10 men crewing a B-17, and 8 on a B-24, we lost tens of thousands of good men over the war with not enough good results. Carpet bombing, fire bombing and all was done not because we didn't care about the civilian casualties, but because only such a aerial bombardment will destroy the target.

Over the years we have gotten better and better hitting the intended target, and especially thanks to modern computing and electronics. It costs a lot of money, but it is better than losing 1,000 men on one bombing mission, just to find out your enemy shrugged off any loses and was back in production the next day.

CEP stands for circular error of precision--means by how close you were (really, how much you missed by).

By the Gulf war our smart bombs--one bomb from one aircraft, had a CEP of 30 feet. Still, many of our bombs were plain old gravity "dumb" bombs. Now, in 2015, only a few are. I don't have accuracy info for those--it's classified, but let's assume better than the Gulf War.

So, to that end, I don't mind us being careful with collateral damage and civilian deaths, because generally speaking, when you've killed a lot of civilians it means you missed the target--unless the target purposefully surrounded itself with civilians. Then it's "Oh well, sucks to be you!"

I did a little net checking and for the first time realized that Paul Ryan is actually very well off financially. He is an 18 yr, 9 term congressman with a gov golden parachute when he retires and has a million plus portfolio to tide him over should he be defeated by an American First candidate from his state. He may have been chosen speaker because Boehner was threatening to stay on if his choice of replacement was not accepted by the other congresscriters. The ones who had opposed Boehner recently were punished by him for doing so. Many of these people cannot afford to pay the penalty for opposing the House speaker who controls their assignments to committees of varying importance to each. Ryan has not acted out of impending penury. He could afford to tough out a fight for fiscal salvation for America. Instead, Ryan did what was most opportune and feasible for his personal advancement with govt power brokers as well as those in the corporate world. Paul Ryan has revealed his version of a good Republican. He has a bright future with the Uniparty.

Makes me think of Woodrow Wilson’s wife. After he had a stroke in the White House, and he was almost completely incapacitated, she hid this from the public and ruled as him herself.

Imagine an incapacitated Hillary. Slick Willie the IRPOTUS get’s his 3rd term!

Well Ryan made the conservative caucus a bunch of BS promises which he is already breaking. The problem with the House of REps is that most of the GOP reps are middle of the road not conservative so they were happy to vote for Ryan. The 50 or so conservatives don’t control the House and its an ongoing problem.
